Ag wrapped up | Nature Chemistry
The atomically precise assembly of metal nanoparticles offers vast possibilities for materials chemistry. Ring-shaped polyoxometalates have now served to stabilize Ag30 nanoparticles with exposed surfaces. Metal nanoparticles are widely studied materials with applications ranging from solar energy conversion to catalysis to quantum computing and theranostics.
Molecular Vanadium Oxides for Energy Conversion and Energy Storage: Current Trends and Emerging Opportunities
Abstract Molecular vanadium oxides, or polyoxovanadates (POVs), have recently emerged as a new class of molecular energy conversion/storage materials, which combine diverse, chemically tunable redox behavior and reversible multielectron storage capabilities. This Review explores current challenges, major breakthroughs, and future opportunities in the use of POVs for energy conversion and storage.
Solid-state-stabilization of molecular vanadium oxides for reversible electrochemical charge storage
Solid-state-stabilization of molecular vanadium oxides for reversible electrochemical charge storage† Molecular vanadium oxides are promising active materials for cathodes in lithium and post-lithium batteries due to their high redox activity, low molecular weight and facile tuneability. However, a major challenge for this application is the transformation of the molecular clusters into solid-state oxides under typical electrode fabrication conditions.

Stabilization of Low-Valent Iron(I) in a High-Valent Vanadium(V) Oxide Cluster
Low-valent iron centers are critical intermediates in chemical and bio-chemical processes. Herein, we show the first example of a low-valent FeI center stabilized in a high-valent polyoxometalate framework. Electrochemical studies show that the FeIII-functionalized molecular vanadium(V) oxide (DMA)[FeIIIClVV O Cl]3? (DMA=dimethylammonium) features two well-defined, reversible, iron-based electrochemical reductions which cleanly yield the FeI species (DMA)[FeIClVV O Cl]5?.
Structural and reactivity insights into covalently linked Cu(I) complex-Anderson polyoxometalates
The synthesis, crystallographic analysis and full characterization of the Cu(I) complex-functionalized Anderson polyoxomolybdate anions (nBu4N)[MMo6O18((OCH2)3CNCH(C47H37N2P2OCu)2] (M = Mn3+, Fe3+, Co3+) is reported. For the first time, direct crystallographic evidence for the covalent attachment of a photoactive metal complex to an organo-functionalized polyoxometalate is obtained.
Challenges in polyoxometalate-mediated aerobic oxidation catalysis: catalyst development meets reactor design
Selective catalytic oxidation is one of the most widely used chemical processes. Ideally, highly active and selective catalysts are used in combination with molecular oxygen as oxidant, leading to clean, environmentally friendly process conditions. For homogeneous oxidation catalysis, molecular metal oxide anions, so-called polyoxometalates (POMs) are ideal prototypes which combine high reactivity and stability with chemical tunability on the molecular level.
Generation of a stable supramolecular hydrogen evolving photocatalyst by alteration of the catalytic center
A new dyad consisting of a RuII chromophore, a tetrapyridophenazine bridging ligand and a Rh(Cp*)Cl catalytic center, [Ru(tbbpy)2(tpphz)Rh(Cp*)Cl]Cl(PF6)2, acts as durable photocatalyst for hydrogen production from water. Catalytic activity is observed for more than 650 hours.
