Political Puffery and the Call to Punch "Nazis"
This week, I discussed two recent incidents of media spin involving MPs Michael Cooper and Jagmeet Singh on a popular Toronto radio show. Conservative MP Cooper was heavily criticized on social media for engaging amicably with Wellington Street Regulars, a loosely organized group of Ottawa residents known for consistently demonstrating since the Freedom Convoy.
Wolves in Sheep's Clothing: A Tale of Antisemitic Misrepresentation
A man with former (?) affiliations to neo-Nazism takes illicit footage from a Hindu supremacist and misrepresents the scene to cast doubt on the Jewish subject of the video clip: “I know that ‘I’ haven’t been kicked out of a synagogue before.” This derisive comment was targeted at my videographer. It referred to a confrontation between him and a pro-Israel protester about her offside behaviour at an orthodox synagogue.
Clothed in Controversy: The Political Messages We Wear
In the realm of politics, the conveyance of messages through slogans and fashion choices is a potent means of expression and affiliation. Political slogans, marked by their brevity and memorability, encapsulate campaign promises and ideologies, fostering emotional connections within a group. Clothing has always served as a canvas for political statements, from Hugo Boss’ infamous design of SS uniforms, to the anti-establishment Punk movement subculture.
The Complexities of Protest and Intolerance: Unraveling the 1 Million March 4 Children
This article is co-authored by Elisa Hategan, independent journalist. On Tuesday afternoon, I received a direct message from a radio broadcaster: “Do you expect there to be much of a turn out at the Million person protest? Seems to be a bit rag tag.” They were referring to 1 Million March 4 Children, a nationwide protest billed as a “family-friendly and peaceful” march to eliminate Sexual Orientation Gender Identity (SOGI) policies, curriculum, and teacher resources.
The HateGate Affair: Unmasking Canada's Hate Industry
A public safety minister makes false and alarmist comments in a press conference; when pressed for details, he directs media to law enforcement, who scramble to produce evidence where there is none. An officer is tasked to produce a key briefing for top officials to help government decision-making, in only fifteen minutes. Intelligence Analysts taking cues from anonymous Twitter trolls involved in criminal harassment.
Safer in a Viper's Pit: A New Chapter in My Disturbing Saga of Online and Real-World Harassment
A random white male walks past a demonstration in progress. He stops, exchanges terse words with the protesters, digs up a loosely-sealed can of paint he is carrying in a shopping bag, and pitches its contents onto the demonstrators. The bulk of the paint lands on a black woman, prompting accusations of racism. A video that goes viral shortly afterwards is offered up as evidence.
Understanding the Pattern of Rage-Farming: Erica Ifill vs Bingo the Dead Dog
There is an identifiable pattern to rage-farming when it comes to current events. It starts with an incident that causes strong reactions among many people, such as joy, disgust, or sadness. The mainstream media usually presents this trigger situation in a simple way that supports the dominant public sentiment. Then, a rabble-rouser takes advantage of the intense emotions by saying outrageous or offensive things that run counter to what most people feel.
The Prosecution of Jeremy MacKenzie: Peace Bonds & Possible Political Interference
The interplay between criminal proceedings and media is such that public opinion gets shaped by salacious headlines and unproven allegations. The court of public opinion moves much more swiftly and decisively than courts of law. This series will take a look at what actually transpires once the fanfare fades away, with a view towards providing a primer on Canadian criminal law and procedure.
The Exploitation of Children for Political Gain: A Look at Save Canada vs. Antifaux at York Mills Collegiate
Children are powerful tools to achieve political ends. For as long as we can remember, political actors have used children to communicate a particular message, advance an agenda, or galvanize support from the public. When involving minors in political activism there is always an element of exploitation, but the spectrum ranges from relatively benign (politicians kissing babies) to abominable (kids used as human shields).
Smear Merchants and the Canadian Anti-Hate Network: Simple Pawns or Knowing Proxies?
Let’s break down the anatomy of a social media smear campaign. The target is selected usually because they are to be silenced. A seed gets planted, often by an anonymous or semi-anonymous account. The smear can be blatant, and other times is more insidious. The target is closely monitored, with words and actions taken out of context or presented in a false light. This is historic methodology to create an attack on reputation.
Video: Meet The Guy WHo Recorded Andrew Tate's Ill Fated Pizza Box Video... — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Will Sebag-Montefiore is speaking up. LOLOLOLOL. Cut, print, and check the gate. It’s over. I just found my new favorite satirist, and his name is William Sebag-Montefiore. Comedy in a 2-minute teachable moment about why Alpha-Males are nothing more than sex trafficking fraud junkies. Will’s been on this Alpha-Male trolling for a while. He took out Nick Adams, Aussie Evangelical Christian cock, the fat version of Andrew Tate. I dig it. Look at this fat fuck and his 4-pound ice cream.
Op-ed: I was James Bowie's client
You don't realize how vulnerable you are until you end up at the mercy of strangers who fabricate stories based on a single snapshot Courtesy of Caryma Sa'd The morning before the story broke, I got a message from a colleague informing me that a scandal involving Ottawa lawyer James Bowie was imminent. Within hours, social media platforms were abuzz with news about accusations of sexual misconduct leveled against Bowie, alleging predatory behaviour targeting female pro bono clients.
Best Of 2022: Dean: An Open Letter To Jamie Sale (And Theo Fleury, Kind Of) — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Jamie Sale had a day yesterday. Canada generally stayed away from mocking her during the Pandemic. She was a Canadian hero and Olympic Gold medalist who lost everything after going full-on paranoid anti-vax, anti-science, satanic pedo cabal, Qanon. Yesterday she hit a wall retweeting a fake Trudeau tweet demanding he is tried for treason crimes against humanity, and SHE WAS, CRUSHED. I decided to write a letter to Jamie and post it here because I know she’ll read it.
Best Of 2022: Dean: The Tidal Wave #TrudeauMustGo Campaign Was "Absolutely Coordinated and Paid" — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
I have to be honest. I didn’t spend much time responding to #TrudeauMustGo hate tweets and threats. I like to go outside and do things and understand a simple premise regarding Twitter: It’s bullshit curated fake reality in a window on my phone. The #TrudeauMustGo trend started a couple of weeks ago, gaining viral support over the past several days. Marty Belanger says he started this trend organically, even though it started in the US last week.
The Crush Of Alt-Right Christian Hatred On Social Media Is My New Jam In 2022 — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
This week I suggested a reporter for alt-right news, disinformation site, True North ‘News’ (LOL) site made up an entire narrative about vaccine mandates for clicks. I wrote the post for two reasons. 1) True North is a complete and total joke. It’s a poor man’s Rebel News created to fire pure conservative alt-right disinformation about Canada and its liberal government. 2) To suck out trolls to write this post.
Bob Odenkirk MAY have a foot fetish and you better be ok with it — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Better call Saul – if you have a foot fetish and you’re looking for some good foot fetish accounts to follow. This showed up on Reddit today, and people have questions. Maybe it’s a fake BUT it’s the t;l of reddit tonight and everything is real on Reddit, right? The dreaded follow haunt. Remember two years ago when the Pope was outed for following hot chicks with big hooters? If you’re not watching Better Call Saul or don’t like Bob Odenkirk, you don’t appreciate good acting.
Video: Alex Jones Is Shitting His Wranglers Right Now — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
I would be, too, if my lawyers accidentally sent over three years’ worth of data from the mobile device I was desperately trying to hide from a defamation trial that could send me to jail. That’s what happened this week, and it led to a 4.1 million dollar judgment for the parents of a child massacred in Sandy Hook 10 years ago. The moment Alex found out, he knew he was FUCKED.
Viral Video: How Much Water Can Fit In A Stretch Armstrong? — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
The internet is a strange place. From Twitter Trolls to Women who fart for money, there’s a niche for everybody’s interest. Enter @vlogcast, a UK-based creator who likes to take kids’ toys and fill them with water to see what will happen. With 4.3million followers on TikTok and over 96.7million likes, he’s clearly doing something right. So, how much water can a Stretch Armstrong hold? Watch and find out! It’s extremely satisfying.
Dean: Here's a light look at who drives disinformation in Canada - It's all about the network. — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
This week, alt-right religious extremist/fake news journalist Rupa Subramanya posted a fake story about Canada hiding their real vaccine mandate intention behind court documents Rupa says she has, without a single receipt. She’s good at that. AKA, bullshit. She’s part of a loose network of losers who peddle fake news stories to confuse and hurt this country daily. Rupa doesn’t do research or real news. Everyone knows it.
LOLOLOL: Chris Sky Now Sells Chicken Sandwiches For A Living — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
And who doesn’t like a chicken sandwich? If you want to keep tabs on the downfall of a pandemic legend, The Platypus is a great site to check from time to time if you like jerking off to schadenfreude. They follow Chris and a few other notable jackwagons pretending to be someone during the pandemic. I can’t tell you how many times we told you Chris Sky was nothing without the pandemic “Just Say No” t-shirt sales and travelling tent revivals for fucking idiots. And I stand corrected.
VIDEO: The NFL has three days to decide whether they condone or condemn sexual assault — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson learned his fate today. Watson will be suspended for the first six games of the NFL season. After thinking about it for a few hours I gave my inital thoughts on the matter. I’m now going to sit back and wait for the NFL to make a decision.
Video: Jo, The Crisis 'Artist' From The Fake "True North" ArriveCAN Video Says She's Being Told What To Do, "Not Allowed" To Talk To Us About Her Fake Video(s) Anymore - Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Yesterday, we published a post about a 71-year-old named Jo who helps make manipulated videos for an alt-right videographer named”Rowan,” whose fake stories appear on various phony news outlets and in the feeds of right-wing politicians social media feeds. Featured The idea? Putting a ‘vulnerable senior’ in a fake video makes it look like Canada is abusing them for not having the arriveCAN app. The goal?
"Creepy" Drake Tried To AirDrop A Picture He Took Of An Unassuming "Woman" He Thought Was "A Dime" Then Posted It On IG Without Her Permission — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Maybe I’m new to creeping women by taking their pic (unsolicited) objectifying her on social media, then AirDropping said woman, that pic, while she’s with her husband. It might work for the world’s #1 streaming artist, but it’s CREEEEEEEPPPPYYY, AF. Or so I’m told, and the internet seems to agree. There’s a HUGE difference between taking random pictures and a picture of a woman without her permission to objectify her. Drake did the latter because he’s an entitled creepy weirdo.
We're ALL Writing History Books Here So Stop Messing It Up! — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Back before days of the internet, we used to bury physical “time capsules” in the ground, or put messages in sealed bottles and send them adrift. I vividly remember being in, like grade 1, and our class working hard on deliberating what integral pieces of our reality would be placed in our sealed 5-gallon bucket that we planned to plunge deeply into the depths of the earth’s mantle.
Best Of 2022: Caryma Sa'd, Uncovering Decoys And Proud Boys At Clarence Square Park — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
I trigger people on all sides of the political spectrum. It’s not my raison d’être, just a hazard of the lottery of birth. Existing as an intelligent, brown Muslim woman lawyer who loudly expresses political opinions has consequences—I have suffered assault, stalking, harassment, and even arrest for asserting my right to speak and take up space. In essence, I am a storyteller. I recount my real-life observations with words and images to highlight absurdities in our sick, sad world.
Video: Jordan Peterson Took Another Huge Shit On Canada Today — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Jordo dropped this today. 6 minutes of “I fucking HATE this country and all the good people in it who think they can force selfless behavior and kindness on the angry Christian Orthodoxy!!” It’s almost incomprehensible, but here are some tasty weirdo nuggets (I had to watch it, so you don’t have to, but here it is), complete with the extremist honkey logo from Canada Proud, owned by Pierre Poilieveres campaign guy Jeff Ballingall.
Inspired by The United People of Canada, Dean Blundell Is Rebranding — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Last week it came to light that an organization calling itself “The United People of Canada” or “Tupac Shakur” AKA “TUPC” had set up shop in an old church in downtown Ottawa. In addition to definitely not having any association with The Freedumb Convoy that took over Ottawa despite some pretty damning evidence to the contrary, they also have a very familiar logo. Our very own Dean Blundell noted that it looks strikingly familiar to the Gondor logo from Lord of the Rings.
BREAKING: Give Send Grift Has Taken Over Fake Trucker Fund — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Right-wing extremists have found a safe haven on GiveSendGo, the “#1 Free Christian Crowdfunding Site.” Give Send Go, where “the most valuable currency is love,” has decided to continue their mission to take society into the gutter further in the name of Jesus once again. The Alt-Right Christian crowd-fleecing company has thrown themselves into the void left after GoFundMe announced they will no longer be participating in the fraud of the century, also known as the Trucker Convoy for Freedom.
Why Rebranding Militant Anti-Vaxxers as Domestic Terrorists Is Important — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
If you caught the show today, there is a change afoot amongst the hosts and viewers of The Dean Blundell Show. Although Dean took the reigns and put out the tweet, Lochlin Cross was the the one who rightly quipped “We should call them terrorists.” To which Dean quickly agreed and put out a tweet to start the rebranding campaign. I'm no longer calling Antivaxxers, Antivaxxers. They are now called domestic terrorsists.
PPC riding manager for Randy Hillier's daughter identified as Trudeau stone thrower — Dean Blundell's Sports, News, Podcast Network
Shane Marshall, the riding manager for PPC candidate Chelsea Hiller has been identified as being one of the people responsible for assaulting Trudeau with small rocks on Monday. Marshall was previously exposed as running multiple white nationalist accounts and has links to the white supremacist movement Canada First. On Monday, Trudeau visited London as part of his campaign rally.
Hot Mess — Caryma Sa'd | Law, Comics, Media
Last summer, Doug Ford promised air conditioning in long-term care homes. That would have come in handy during this year’s intense heat waves, but alas! Another unkept promise to add to the ever-growing list.
Lilley Unleashed — Caryma Sa'd | Law, Comics, Media
There’s no plan for #SafeSeptember2021, but Stephen Lecce seems more preoccupied with his prospects for re-election. It’s probably convenient to have an attack dog in the form of Toronto Sun columnist Brian Lilley.
All in the Family — Caryma Sa'd | Law, Comics, Media
In case lines between state & media weren’t blurry enough, The Toronto Sun made a rare apology to Kyla Ford, the Premier’s daughter, for punny headline about #KKKookies. You may recall the debacle last week when people pointed out the terrorist acronym in “KyKy’s Kookies.” Considering how offensive the The Toronto Sun is on a regular basis, it’s ironic they chose to issue an apology for a headline they actually got right.
The Prisoner’s Dilemma — Caryma Sa'd | Law, Comics, Media
There are examples of coalitions and inter-party collaboration that can (and must) be used as inspiration. Otherwise we’re all screwed.
Political Theatre — Caryma Sa'd | Law, Comics, Media
The day after a 13-year-old girl died of COVID-19 (likely due to her father transmitting the virus from his warehouse job) 55 Ontario PC Party MPPs voted against paid sick days. Today’s announcement of three paid sick days is a partial solution at best.
Vaccine Rollout - Caryma Sa'd | Law, Comics, Media
Iām no expert on supply management, but it seems disingenuous to complain about a vaccine shortage while hoarding doses that are set to expire this week. The vaccine rollout in Ontario has been utter chaos and confusion. The responsibility lies squarely with Doug Ford. Shame. Doug FordOntariovaccinecovid-19covid19LibraCapricornlaw & policy
The Dummy — Caryma Sa'd | Law, Comics, Media
Doug Ford is using unappealable special powers to override environmental protections for wetlands to pave the way (literally & figuratively) for development by major Ontario Progressive Conservative and Ontario Proud donors. And he’s retroactively changing laws to make it happen. This is Kafkaesque. Why is Ford hellbent on issuing Ministers’ Zoning Orders to fast track development projects on ecologically sensitive areas? FOLLOW. THE. MONEY.

Crummy — Caryma Sa'd | Law, Comics, Media
Another day, another chaotic announcement from @fordnation. The government is apparently “exploring options” about an eviction moratorium (???), but no word on any *tangible* support for people struggling to make ends meet. Why are so many policy options being left on the table?
Stop Being Poor - Caryma Sa'd | Law, Comics, Media
Regarding the lack of physical distancing on transit, Ontario’s associate chief medical officer glibly suggested people must “decide their risk tolerance” when boarding overcrowded buses. Does her calculus include risk of job loss? Not having groceries? Missing Dr.’s appts?
July 2020 Newsletter - Equity Issue - NORML Canada
Message from the NORML Canada Executive Director Caryma Sa'd The past few months have seen uprisings against police brutality across North America and beyond. To quote the late civil rights leader John Lewis, “We may not have chosen the time, but the time has chosen us.“ The war on drugs is inextricably linked to patterns of over-policing of poor, non-white, and/or disabled communities, and the denial of opportunities due to disproportionate enforcement.
Racism persists in post-legalization cannabis policies
The killing of George Floyd by an officer in Minnesota set off waves of righteous furor against police-enacted violence. Since May 26, 2020, Black-led organizers have staged large-scale demonstrations across the United States, sparking mainstream conversations about anti-Black racism and abolishing police. There is increasing awareness that not all communities feel protected by police—that, in some cases, police themselves are the problem. Such issues are not unique to America.
