College Student Overcomes Fear of Persecution in China
SAN FRANCISCO—”For 16 years, I’ve been living in the fear of being persecuted for my faith,” said Peiqi Gu, 30, who grew up in communist China. Her faith is Falun Dafa, a Buddha School practice of the mind, body, and spirit, which is freely enjoyed nearly everywhere in the world, with the notable exception of China. Just one year before the persecution began, Gu, at the age of 11, took up Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) with her mother.

SAN FRANCISCO—Two years ago, Sunny Guo, a then 47-year-old Chinese housewife, came alone to America to start a new life, one free of religious persecution. She was fleeing repeated detention and torture by the Chinese Communist Party in its attempt to break her will so she would give up her faith. No presoaking is necessary for dried lentils, and the bacon doesn’t have to be fried prior to cooking, which makes for an easy soup to prepare. Lentils also add depth and an earthy flavour while being a perfect protein source.

Spicy Meat Lover's Pizza-Style Dip

Steak is Great Baked With Apples
Just like pork, steak bakes well with apples and spices. Baking makes the meat and apple slices moist and tender, with a mild hint of fall. To complement the seasonal tastes, serve with mashed sweet potatoes made with a dab of butter, brown sugar, and salt and pepper. Add a steamed green veggie and it’s a balanced meal.
