Idaho 44: Owyhee County - Local museum brings state history to life
Owyhee County is a small but mighty home to only 11,000 residents; it covers a landmass larger than the state of New Jersey, and it’s one of the Idaho counties we haven’t visited yet for our Idaho 44 project. At the heart of the county is the "Owyhee Historical Museum," a place where you can step back in time and experience the lives of southwestern Idaho's earliest miners, ranchers, farmers and families. The museum was founded in 1961.
Interfaith Sanctuary finds a new home and new recognition
Earlier this year the Interfaith Sanctuary moved from downtown Boise to its new location on State Street\ in West Boise. The move involved a lot of money, time, court cases and city council decisions, and it made changes to some of what the sanctuary does every day to help its guests.
From COVID response to physician training, Dr. Megan Dunay makes an impact
A good bedside manner can make all the difference for a patient's recovery, but it’s not a skill that every doctor is born with. Dr. Megan Dunay spends a lot of her time helping doctors be better doctors when she isn’t helping her patients or acting as medical director of the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise or as medical director of Keystone Health. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked to find ways to give patients in a nursing home setting the antiviral drugs they needed to survive.
Inside Garden City's creative economy
Just beyond downtown Boise is the community of Garden City, which over the past 15 years has seen an explosion of art galleries, performance halls, restaurants, bars and coffee shops. This growing community was born from the vision of artist Surel Mitchell, who, back in 1988, built a home in Garden City where she could create and share her art.
