Each week, This Is My Music is hosted by one of Canada's foremost international classical artists. The host selects a program of mainly classical music and presents it in a lively, engaging manner, enriched with personal anecdotes and insights.
Percussionist Matias Recharte built his first drum set out of cans and buckets when he was 11. Born in Lima, Peru, Recharte studied Afro-Peruvian and Afro-Cuban folkloric music growing up, and attended the Rotterdam Conservatorium in the Netherlands. He’s now in the midst of a doctorate in music education at the University of Toronto.
New Brunswick native Suzie LeBlanc had to look no further than her mother, an opera singer, for her musical inspiration. LeBlanc grew up singing and taking lessons on the flute and piano. At 15, she discovered her love of baroque music and not long afterwards, she was touring professionally. While studying voice in England, LeBlanc got her break while filling in for the great British soprano, Emma Kirkby.
