Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I've never worked as a journalist before, although I studied it.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Oh yes! No fond memories, here.

How is social media changing news?

Unfortunately, I think social media wildly encourages fake news and hysteria, and paints the view that mainstream news is unreliable.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Err ... Clark Kent?

What does it mean to be a journalist?

I'll quote from the movie "Civil War." It's to record (and observe) events of the world. Often, from a neutral , third-party perspective.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

That's impossible to say! There are so many!

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Microsoft Office and the Adobe Creative Suite.

What's your favorite social network?

YouTube.

Who do you wish followed you?

I guess, the writers of the leading publications in Singapore and the United States?

Why did you become a journalist?

Well, like I said earlier, I've never worked as a journalist. But if I were to, I guess it's purely because I enjoy writing.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes I did. I was a writer.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

For the moment, it's my review of the Leica SL3.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

I don't think I'm qualified to give such advice.

What's your favorite drink?

Lemonade.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

I'll be watching a movie in a cinema or strolling around Singapore taking photographs. (That is, if I'm not attending an event for work)

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

New Yorker.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

I don't have a beat. I write for various topics, some of which are completely different.
