Tucked within Whiteman Park in the Swan Valley about half an hour's drive from Perth is the Caversham Wildlife Park. Having no clear memory of ever having visited when I was growing up in Perth (it was much smaller and located elsewhere), I was looking forward to finally visiting the park in its Whiteman Park location. As a full day out it's a great one as you have the option of taking in the animals at Caversham then exploring Whiteman Park as well.
If you want to get back to nature and live in the northern suburbs you really don't need to go far. Yellagonga Regional Park stretches from Lake Goollelal to Lake Joondalup and contains Beenyup Swamp and Walluburnup Swamp. My Dad and I decided to walk around a section of the park which covered the end of Lake Joondalup, Beenyup Swamp and Perry's Paddock.
Get up close with your furry and feathered friends. Caversham is situated out in Whiteman Park and an easy drive from Perth or Fremantle. However I would not suggest taking the bus as it is a very long walk to the park entrance from the bus stop! The park has multiple attractions, including a walk-in kangaroo enclosure, sheep sheering and a koala pen, giving ample photo opportunities and up close interactions.
