I was born in Hendersonville. I joke that I am a rare breed as we natives don’t exist much anymore. I remember The Home Food Shop, Belk downtown and picking out Christmas gifts at Roses Discount Store. I have seen Hendersonville change in so many ways. The one thing that was the hardest was to grow up gay in a small town. Between not knowing what was going on to the fear of losing everything you know from friends to family and everything you could possibly imagine at that age.
