Sporting KC Sign 21-year-old Brazilian CB Diego Borges
On Tuesday, Sporting Kansas City announced yet another addition to their 2026 MLS roster. The club acquired center back Diego Borges from Zalaegerszeg TE (ZTE) in Hungary for an undisclosed transfer fee. The rumored fee is €1.75 million ($2.01m USD) per Ben Jacobs of Give Me Sport. Borges is signed to a four-and-a-half-year deal through the 2029-30 season with an option for the 2030-31 season.
Sporting KC with their Fastest Win in Four Seasons
For the Glory KC is back with the 171st episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City did what it took much longer to do in the prior three seasons. They won a game. Sporting KC earned a 2-1 win over the LA Galaxy on the road last night in California. And they did it on the back of their superstar striker Dejan Joveljic and their newest player, Lasse Berg Johnsen. Dejan was the first on the scoreboard, after missing a golden chance to assist Calvin Harris on a goal just minutes earlier.
KC Current Trade for Penelope Hocking from Bay FC
On Wednesday, the Kansas City Current announced their roster construction ahead of the 2026 NWSL season which begins this weekend. In order to make that announcement, they first had to confirm another transaction. KC have traded $350,000 in intra-league transfer funds to Bay FC in exchange for forward Penelope Hocking. Hocking was Bay’s leading scorer in 2025 with six goals on a team that finished one spot out of the basement of the NWSL.
Sporting KC Lose, but Keep Showing Promise in 2026
For the Glory KC is back with the 170th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City came up short against San Diego FC on Saturday, but it was a game full of promise. Sheena and I break down the beats of the game that stood out to us, starting with the stellar goalkeeping of John Pulskamp.

LOOK: KC Current Unveil new Third Kit
On Thursday, the Kansas City Current added another beautiful jersey to their repertoire. Dubbed, the “Storm Kit,” it will be the first third kit in team history. It joins the Heartland (red) and Teal Town kits from last year. This is the first dark kit, the “storm” color is not to be confused as black. Instead, it’s pantone 5395 C and a very deep blue. The lightening flashing across the jersey is in the iconic teal color the KC Current are known for.
Sporting KC Sign Israeli Center Back Or Blorian
About a month ago it was a rumor, and now it’s a done deal. Sporting Kansas City announced the signing of center back Or Blorian on Friday morning. It is a pre-contract signing, meaning he isn’t available immediately but will finish out the season with his current club, Hapoel Be’er Sheva, and join on June 2nd. That will come during the break for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
KC Current Continue to Set the Standard in Women’s Sports
On Tuesday, the Kansas City Current took yet another step forward for all things women’s sports with the opening of the next phase of the University of Kansas Healthy System Training Facility. Members of the community gathered for the ribbon cutting on a facility that is primarily for the KC Current II and the Academy but will be shared with the first team while the Netherlands are using the previously built facility as their base camp during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 2026 Sporting KC Season is Underway: Immediate Reactions
For the Glory KC is back with the 168th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City kicked off the 2026 Major League Soccer season and for 38 minute it was going pretty well. In the first 38 minutes: KC had 305 touches to SJ’s 205 (+100) and 62 passes in final 3rd to SJ’s 55 (+7). The rest of the match KC was +18 on touches and -45 on final 3rd passes.
Sporting KC Looking to add Three to Six More Players this Window
On the eve of the 2026 Major League Soccer season, Sporting Kansas City’s President of Soccer Operations and General Manager, David Lee, spoke with the media in a wide-ranging interview (included in full at the bottom of this story). The topic of conversation lingered pretty heavily around the status of Sporting KC’s roster. With the season set to start, the team is mostly made up of guys playing on MLS minimum contracts and lacks a lot of top end talent.
Bogert: Sporting KC Trading Salloi to Toronto FC
The Athletic’s Tom Bogert had stunning news for Sporting Kansas City fans on Thursday morning. The longest tenured player on Sporting KC’s roster, Daniel Salloi, is rumored to be getting traded to Toronto FC. The package, per Bogert, is $300,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) with another $700,000 in add-ons. 🔴 BREAKING: Toronto FC is finalizing a deal to acquire winger Daniel Salloi from Sporting KC, per sources.Deal is $300k GAM + $700k add-ons.
Sporting KC Preseason Ends with a Signing and Two Wins
For the Glory KC is back with the 167th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City finally did it! They made a signing that everyone expects to be a starter. Lasse Berg Johnsen joins from Malmo in Sweden and should immediately be penciled into the defensive midfielder role when his P-1 visa arrives. We break down the signing and how he’ll fit next to Manu Garcia. The majority of this week’s episode is focused on the two big preseason wins for Sporting KC.
Projecting Sporting KC’s Opening Day Lineup
The 31st Major League Soccer season is set to kick off this week, and Sporting Kansas City will be looking to bounce back from one of the worst seasons in franchise history. To do that, they’ve brought in a new head of their front office, President of Soccer Operations, David Lee. A new manager in Raphael Wicky and a few new players. The offseason has been well documented in its (failed) attempts to add to the roster that was heavily turned over last offseason.
KC Current Draw San Diego Wave at Coachella Valley Invitational
The Kansas City Current played their first preseason game in front of a live crowd on February 15th at the Coachella Valley Invitational. There were many noticeable names missing from the starting lineup. No Lo LaBonta, no Temwa Chawinga or Michelle Cooper (as expected). Lorena also wasn’t out there.
Sporting KC Close Out Preseason with Back-to-Back Wins
Sporting Kansas City closed out preseason with their third and final game of the Coachella Valley Invitational. On the docket were Austin FC. Sporting KC rolled out four lineup changes, bringing in Justin Reynolds for Jake Davis, Jacob Bartlett for Kwaku Agyabeng, John Pulskamp for Stefan Cleveland and Wyatt Meyer for Jansen Miller. The formation and the other seven players remained the same. That 4-4-2 rest defensive shape that Rapha Wicky talked about on Wednesday.
Sporting KC Top NYCFC to Win Their Second Preseason Game
Sporting Kansas City played their fifth preseason game on Wednesday. New President of Soccer Operations, David Lee, welcomed his former club as New York City FC lined up on the other side of the pitch. Sporting KC showed up in the same formation (4-4-2? 4-5-1? 4-4-1-1) that they played in the loss to Minnesota United on Saturday. However, they tried some different personnel. Jake Davis, Kwaku Agyabeng, Jansen Miller, Stefan Cleveland and Stephen Afrifa were all new starters.
Multiple Sources Link Sporting KC to 24-Year-Old Angolan Winger
It’s not secret Sporting Kansas City have had a slow offseason. With just 20 players on the roster and the season only 11 days away, President of Soccer Operations David Lee has his work cut out for him. Today brought signs of life. Multiple rumors popped up, including two sources linking 24-year-old Angolan winger, Capita, to Sporting KC. Polish reporter Tomasz Włodarczyk was first on the story with Tom Bogert quickly confirming the news. 🚨 Capita Capemba może wkrótce opuścić Radomiaka.
Trying Not to Overreact to Sporting KC Preseason
For the Glory KC is back with the 166th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City actually made signings this week, the problem is they are signings we essentially knew about already. Jayden Reid and Wyatt Meyer formally signed, with Ethan Bartlow remaining on trial for the second leg of preseason. Sporting KC II also made a notable signing, bringing in 15-year-old Zamir Loyo Reynaga, who moves to the first team next season.
Minnesota United Defeat Sporting KC 3-0 in Preseason
Sporting Kansas City started their first leg of preseason with a 1-2-0 record. Phase two sees the team head to Indio, CA and their first test was Minnesota United, who defeated the team 6-0 last preseason. Sporting KC rolled out a very different lineup that the ones released earlier in the preseason. They came out in a 4-4-2 with Daniel Salloi lined up next to Dejan Joveljic up top. Salloi did sit underneath Dejan at times, in a bit of a 4-4-1-1.
New Sporting KC Kit Numbers Unveiled
It’s not exactly the news fans are looking for with just 15 days to go until the first kick of the season, but Sporting Kansas City announced new jersey numbers for existing players and the new roster additions on Friday. New season, new jersey numbers 🔢 📰: https://t.co/ELQkhSOklE pic.twitter.com/0QqHk4I8JM — Sporting Kansas City (@SportingKC) February 6, 2026 It’s not groundbreaking stuff, but it is nice to know what number goes to what players.
Trying to Set a Sporting KC Depth Chart
Credit: Thad Bell The Major League Soccer season starts for Sporting Kansas City in just 16 days. Usually, long before this point in the offseason, I’ve written a “way too early” depth chart. For the 2024 season, that was on December 29, 2023 and for the 2025 season, that was on January 10, 2025. Here we are on February 5th and it feels like an impossible task. I can’t imagine how new coach Raphael Wicky feels. Sporting KC have just 20 players signed to their roster.

Sporting KC II Hire Lee Tschantret as New Coach
Sporting Kansas City II have hired Lee Tschantret as their new head coach for the 2026 MLS Next Pro season. Tschantret had previously been the SKC Academy U-18 head coach and has extensive coaching experience under his belt. The Tschantret name is not new to anyone familiar with Kansas City soccer. He guided the Kansas City Attack to the 1997 National Professional Soccer League (indoor) championship. That was the final year Lee played for the Attack and just a blip on his extensive pro career.
Sporting KC Add Two Defenders in Meyer and Reid
On Tuesday, Sporting Kansas City announced the signing of two of their three trialists from the 2026 preseason. The team added a pair of 24-year-old MLS veterans in Wyatt Meyer and Jayden Reid. Both deals are guaranteed for a year, with options through the 2027-28 season. Both players will add to the back line which only had three players on the roster before this announcement. Reid is a left back and Meyer is a left-footed CB who can also play in the midfield.
What is the Minimum Sporting KC Needs to do to be Roster Compliant
It’s February and the Major League Soccer season is right around the corner. Sporting Kansas City kicks off on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes in just 20 days. 19 days from now is the roster compliance deadline. When anyone hears about that day, it’s usually because a team has too many players on their roster or too many of a certain designation (U22 Initiative, Designated Players, International slots, etc.) and they need to get compliant. That is not what is happening with Sporting KC.
Rumor: Sporting KC Make an Offer for Israeli Center Back
Sporting Kansas City fans are desperate for player movement. As of this writing, the team only has 18 players rostered for the 2026 Major League Soccer season, including four goalkeepers. One position where they are particularly deficient is center back. A rumor we missed buy Twitter sleuth, and sometimes Kansas City Soccer Journal contributor, Blaine Riffle found, would shore up some of that center back quality.
Sporting KC’s Weird Week of a Kit Leak, Lewendowski Rumors and more
For the Glory KC is back with the 164th episode of the show! Trigger warning, we get mildly political in the opening three minutes. Skip ahead or stop listening if it’s too much for you. Time stamps, as always, towards the bottom of these show notes. Sporting Kansas City had almost nothing officially happen this week. That said, unofficially, there was still a lot going on.
Sporting KC are Under New Ownership
For the Glory KC is back with the 163rd episode of the show and the second show of 2026! Sporting Kansas City had a pretty big week. No, they didn’t do much to fill out their miniscule roster, but it’s almost certainly bigger than that. On Friday, news broke that Sporting KC minority owner Peter Mallouk was taking over as majority owner, holding an estimated 80 percent of the team. Sheena and I get into what this means for the team this season and beyond.
Sporting KC Win Their Preseason Opener
Sporting Kansas City opened their 2026 preseason schedule with a game against Florida International University. It’s become a bit of a tradition over the last few years. In 2025, they stunningly lost to their collegiate opponent. We don’t know a lot about how the 2026 encounter went, but we know one thing: they won! Treble incoming? [insert sweaty smiling emoji] We kid! Of course, it’s a game they should absolutely win against an inferior opponent. But everything was working against them.
Rumor: ESPN Has Sporting KC Paying over $1 Million for Cesar Inga
Will he, or won’t he? The Cesar Inga to Sporting Kansas City rumors date back to the end of December. And according to his agent, the negotiations have been going on for the duration of December. Just over a week ago, all seemed lost. Universitario de Deportes’ newly hired coach, Javier Rabanal, stated the team just could not part with Inga. They simply had no time to replace him. Inga’s agent was livid.
The Moves Keep Falling Through, but Sporting KC have a Ton to Spend
No one thought a complete rebuild of Sporting Kansas City in the offseason would be easy. Least of all new President of Soccer Operations David Lee. Though I’m not sure anyone saw it being this tough and slow. When Sporting KC announced their offseason roster moves at the conclusion of their 2025 Major League Soccer season, they retained just four of 17 possible players.
2026 KC Current Schedule Released
The Kansas City Current and the entirety of the NWSL released their regular season schedule today. With the additions of expansions clubs Denver Summit and Boston Legacy, the schedule now climbs to 30 games (from 26) with each team playing home and away against every other team in the league. The season kicks off at home against the Utah Royals on March 14th. That’s one day earlier than the 2025 schedule started.
Sporting KC Put in the Middle of a Bizarre Transfer Situation for Ugandan Forward
On Wednesday, something very bizarre happened. Actually, multiple bizarre things happened. First, we got a rare confirmation from Sporting Kansas City that they inquired about a player that they aren’t ultimately landing. Second, we got a glimpse inside the inner workings of the transfer market because of a peculiar decision from one of the involved clubs. The drama centers around Ugandan forward, Rogers Mato. The 22-year-old recently had a breakout performance at the African Cup of Nations.
A Tale of Two New Coaches in Kansas City
For the Glory KC is back with the 162nd episode of the show and the second show of 2026! On this week’s episode of For the Glory KC, we discuss the official hire of Sporting Kansas City coach, Rapha Wicky. On Tuesday, he completed his first press conference with the media, and we unpack the details. Topics covered are the length of his contract, how many more players need to be signed by CSO David Lee, and the style of soccer Wicky and Lee want Sporting KC to play.
Details on the Three Defenders on Trial with Sporting KC
Earlier today, Sporting Kansas City announced their 2026 MLS preseason roster. It included all 17 rostered players (though Zorhan Bassong and Jack Kortkamp are away with their national teams). It also included three players who are out of contract in MLS, an unsigned SuperDraft pick, two SKC II players and eight players for the SKC Academy. The full Sporting KC roster is in attendance. More interesting, are the players we know less about.
KC Current Sign a Player, Re-Sign a Player and Lose Bia
The Kansas City Current had another busy week as they prepare for the 2026 NWSL season. They firmed up two spots on their roster, but also saw some big names sign elsewhere. The final roster is nearly set with a little wiggle room left, perhaps to make a splash addition at center forward. The KC Current added their fifth college signing of the offseason.
Three Key Details from Sporting KC’s New Coach, CSO and Owner Press Conference
On Tuesday, Sporting Kansas City introduced Raphael Wicky as the fifth coach in team history. There to make the announcement was managing co-owner Mike Illig, President of Soccer Operations David Lee and Wicky himself. The press conference was filled with lots of the generic stuff fans have come to expect from these events. However, there were some good details tucked into the 30 minutes. Those details are what we are here to talk about.
How Long Does it Take to Hire a Coach in MLS?
Credit: Thad Bell 279 days and counting. That is how long Sporting Kansas City have been without a permanent head coach. Of course, that’s a bit disingenuous since Kerry Zavagnin was the interim coach until the team announced on December 2nd he would depart officially after not landing the permanent head coaching job. If you want to look at it that way, the team is just at 33 days and counting. But certainly, the fans don’t look at it that way.
Who is Sporting KC Minority Owner Peter Mallouk?
Peter Mallouk not pictured, as he'd likely wants it. | Credit: Thad Bell Peter Mallouk. It’s a name that Sporting Kansas City fans may be unfamiliar with. I know personally, I didn’t know who he was until a Reddit thread popped up about him. A post that has since been deleted by the original poster (as the SKC Reddit admins confirmed, it wasn’t them that deleted it). That said, the rest of the conversation is still there.

Rumor: Peruvian Fullback Cesar Inga has “caught the eye” of Sporting KC
Although radio silence remains out of Sporting Kansas City headquarters, the second rumor in as many days came trickling out about a potential target. Gabriel Pacheco of A Presion Radio is reporting the MLS side has shown interest in Peruvian fullback Cesar Inga. Kansas City tiene interés en contratar a César Inga. El club de la MLS ha mostrado interés en el futbolista de Universitario de Deportes y viene siguiendo de cerca su situación.
Rumor: Sporting KC Targeting Albanian Midfielder Juljan Shehu
It’s silly season. The time of year when players are linked to clubs in need at various positions. Despite Sporting Kansas City having needs all over the pitch, the news has been quiet. That is, until Polish site Goal.pl leaked that Sporting KC are “eyeing” Albanian midfielder Juljan Shehu. That news came way back on the 19th, but no one noticed it until Drew VanderPloeg from the Home and Away podcast, uncovered it.
KC Current Sign 20-year-old Alabama Forward Gianna Paul
Credit: Thad Bell The Kansas City Current’s 2026 roster build continues. On Friday, they announced their 4th college player signing of the offseason with the addition of University of Alabama forward Gianna Paul. Paul joins the club on a three-year guaranteed contract through 2028 with a club option for 2029.
Look: KC Current’s New Current Landing
Credit: Kansas City Current Last Friday, the Kansas City Current announced the name of their new Waterfront District, that CPKC Stadium is a part of. Current Landing. It is fitting. The KC Current landed with so much force in the last two seasons when they moved into their new soccer specific stadium designed purposely for them. If you’ve been to the games, crossed the Kit Bond Bridge or been anywhere in the vicinity, you can see that the footprint on the Missouri River is growing.
KC Current Sign US Youth International Defender Laney Rouse
The Kansas City Current continued their offseason roster build with their second signing of the week and their third addition of the offseason. The club announced Laney Rouse, defender from the University of Virginia would be joining on a one-year deal through the 2026 season. Rouse was a standout in defense for the Cavaliers where she contributed to 55 shutouts over her five seasons in school She was a starter in 86 of her 97 appearances and put in over 6,600 minutes.
Partial Sporting KC and KC Current Preseason Schedules Released
On Wednesday, we inched that much closer to watching Sporting Kansas City and the Kansas City Current play soccer again. Not real games that matter, but it’s something. The Coachella Valley Invitational, which we knew Sporting KC were playing in but didn’t know if the KC Current were playing, released their preseason schedule for February. Sporting will play three games in Indio, California, while the Current will just drop in for a single game in final preparations for the NWSL Challenge Cup.
Salloi Provides Peek Behind the Scenes in Sporting KC Offseason Vlog
Sporting Kansas City’s offseason is in full swing. After releasing or declining options on numerous players, the team has (slowly) started to add pieces as they build towards the start of the 2026 Major League Soccer season. However, in that down time after the team is eliminated and before the team plays their first game of the following season, there can be a lack of information about what is going on off the field. Enter Daniel Salloi.
For the Glory KC: Mailbag and News Roundup
For the Glory KC is back with the 157th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City and the KC Current didn’t have a ton going on this week, so instead we did a mailbag episode of the podcast. Apologies to those who asked questions we didn’t get to, weren’t equipped to answer or who we took so long to answer news has come out on your questions. For a decent junk of the mailbag, we played a game from listener Spencer. He asked us to go back to the end of 2024 and revisit our roster decisions.
