Sporting KC Surprise the Columbus Crew at the Home Opener
For the Glory KC is back with the 169th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City nearly sell out their home opener in a fun game with the Columbus Crew. Sheena and I give our thoughts on the game including thoughts of the goals and formations. Rapha Wicky keeps setting the team up different and other teams don’t know what to expect. We’re not even sure what that formation was, or where certain players were playing. So how would opponents know?
Another Week Passes Without a Sporting KC Signing
For the Glory KC is back with the 165th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City had another quiet week where they didn’t make any more signings. They added just one player during the month of January. What is the Minimum Sporting KC Needs to do to be Roster Compliant Sheena and I worked through the lack of news and the state of the roster with just 20 days to go until the first MLS game kicks off.
The Calm Before the Sporting KC Storm?
For the Glory KC is back with the 160th episode of the show and the first of 2026! Sporting Kansas City officially had a relatively quiet week. Unofficially, they have a coach they are set to announce on Monday. Tom Bogert is reporting it, and the team was already teasing an announcement before he broke the story. It looks like it’s long rumored Raphael Wicky, who we learned about over a month ago. We give our initial reactions to the news.
Sporting KC Trade for Defender Justin Reynolds
Credit: Thad Bell Our long national nightmare is over! Sporting Kansas City have made a roster move ahead of the 2026 Major League Soccer Season. On Tuesday, Sporting KC announced they had traded for Justin Reynolds from the Chicago Fire. They acquired him for a 2028 third round SuperDraft pick and up to $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) based on performance. Chicago also retained a sell-on percentage if Sporting KC were to transfer Reynolds.
A Sporting KC Rumor and WTF is Happening with the KC Current
For the Glory KC is back with the 159th episode of the show and the final episode of season four unless we need an emergency new coach podcast this week! Sporting Kansas City had another quiet week. We try not to rehash the silence (though it’s unavoidable to a certain extent) but instead focus on the one rumor that trickled out. Sporting KC were tied to Albanian midfielder Juljan Shehu.
Alex Pfeiffer Departs KC Current in Stunning Move
Credit: Thad Bell It’s Christmas Eve and the Kansas City Current are handing out gifts no one asked for. The latest is the stunning decision to mutually part ways with 18-year-old Alex Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer originally joined the KC Current as one of the National Women’s Soccer League’s first ever U-18 signings. She was a highly touted prospect who got into her first professional game in the opener that season against the Portland Thorns.
Is it Time to Worry about Sporting KC’s Lack of a Coach and Roster?
For the Glory KC is back with the 158th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City made a little noise this week with their four selections in the MLS SuperDraft, including Kwaku Agyebeng, who was signed a contract as a part of his selection. But the biggest question of the week is, are Sporting KC taking too long to hire a coach and build a roster? Sheena and I debate it, and it is a subject that really got her fired up! Sporting KC remain one of just two teams without a head coach.
No More Children’s Mercy Park, New Kit Release Date and Sporting KC Preseason
Ten years ago, Sporting Kansas City announced a decade-long deal with Children’s Mercy Hospital for the naming rights of Sporting Park. Children’s Mercy Park, or often referred to as CMP, will have a new name when Sporting KC kick off the 2026 Major League Soccer season. What name will be plastered on the stadium is not yet known. What we do know is Sporting KC have a new official healthcare provider, Saint Luke’s.
KC Current Lose Late to AFC Toronto in World Sevens
The Kansas City Current entered the final group stage game needing another win. They picked up one this morning, but they would have to vanquish AFC Toronto to give themselves the best chance to advance to the semifinals and a chance to play for $5 million. Toronto had a slim chance of advancing, so they would be motivated to fight hard for a win too. Despite KC needing the result they would ultimately lose the game very late, in disappointing fashion.
More on Rumored Sporting KC Coaching Candidate Raphael Wicky
On Thursday night, the first hint of a Sporting Kansas City coaching rumor bubbled to the surface. The Athletic’s Tom Bogert reports that the team is down to three finalists. The only leaked name of the three is Swiss coach Raphael Wicky. Sources: Rapha Wicky is among three finalists for Sporting KC head coach role. Won league title + Swiss cup as manager of BSC Young Boys in most recent job.
KC Current Playing for $5 Million in World Sevens this Week
The 2025 NWSL season for the Kansas City Current was nothing short of remarkable. The team set NWSL records in nearly every category including points, wins, road wins, home wins, shutout streak and more. The playoffs weren’t as kind, but the wait for more KC Current action will be shorter than expected. When Gotham FC won the NWSL Championship a bit over a week ago, that set the stage for the KC Current as the NWSL Shield winners to play them in the Challenge Cup on February 20th.
Hailie Mace Says Goodbye to Kansas City and the Current
The 2025 Kansas City Current season came to an unceremonious end on Sunday at CPKC Stadium. As Lo LaBonta said in the post-game press conference, this is the last time this team would be together. On Tuesday night, the first domino dropped. Hailie Mace announced on her Instagram that she was leaving Kansas City. I love goodbyes! said nobody ever. Okay but seriously how do you say goodbye to a city that’s been home for four years?
Temwa Chawinga Injury Update
The 2025 Kansas City Current season has gone incredibly well. That may even still be an understatement. They locked up the NWSL Shield faster than any team in league history and they’ve broken numerous other records along the way. For the last month, they’ve just been managing minutes, injuries and fitness as they ramp up towards the 2025 NWSL playoffs, which are about a week away as of this writing. That is, until the last game.
MLS and Sporting KC Fan Survey
The 2025 soccer season is over for Sporting Kansas City. It’s safe to say, it didn’t go the way anyone who supports Sporting KC would have wanted it to go. What we would like to know is exactly how each and every one of you perceived the season, the players, the coaching, ownership, the stadium experience, podcasts, local media coverage and more.
Change Can be Hard, but Sporting KC Made the Right Roster Moves
On Thursday, Sporting Kansas City announced their end of season roster moves. There were 17 players that decisions needed to be made on. Of the 17, only four are currently set to be on the roster to start the 2026 season: Jansen Miller, John Pulskamp, Zorhan Bassong and Stephen Afrifa. That kind of movement is definitely jarring for the fan base. However, these were moves that (mostly) needed to be made. There were some big names that were let go. Team captain Erik Thommy might be top of the list.
2025-26 Sporting KC and MLS Offseason Schedule
The 2025 Major League Soccer season is finally over. Well, for the 12 worst teams in the league, including Sporting Kansas City. In a league where nearly everyone makes the playoffs, being on the outside looking in is a terrible feeling. Particularly if you are Sporting KC, who have now missed the playoffs in three of the last four seasons. But something is different now. Sporting KC enter the offseason with a bit of a different feeling.
A Closer Look at New Sporting KC CSO David Lee
For the Glory KC is back with the 149th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City did what we’ve been asking for and hired a new President of Soccer Operations. David Lee is in charge of all things soccer over at Sporting KC, and he’ll report directly to ownership. That’s actually the first (serious) subject on the pod. CSO? PoSO? General Manager? Sporting Director? Technical Director?
Sporting KC’s Awful Weekend: A Race to the Bottom
For the Glory KC is back with the 148th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City put up one of the worst performances in recent memory when they went on the road and lost 4-1 to the LA Galaxy. The dead-last-in-all-of-MLS Galaxy. They gave up a hattrick in the first half to Designated Player, Joseph Paintsil, and he frankly could have scored four or five goals on the night. It’s a worrying trend with how they start games and how they end the first half of games.
Report: England Scouting Kansas City for World Cup Base Camp
In 2026, the FIFA World Cup is coming back to the United States. The US will co-host with their neighbors in Canada and Mexico. The joint hosting venture has 16 cities hosting games and Kansas City was one of 10 US cities to get a game. Six games in fact, including a prestigious quarterfinal matchup.
Should Sporting KC Sell Dejan Joveljic for the Right Offer?
For the Glory KC is back with the 145th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City failed once again to do what they haven’t been able to do all season. String together back-to-back wins. That leaves them all but eliminated from the 2025 playoffs, simply seeking to avoid a slide that puts them at the bottom of the table. We spend just a little time on the Austin FC game (but we still had a few thoughts) and move to more pressing matters.
While Imperfect, Sporting KC’s Tactics Showed Promise Versus Colorado
For the Glory KC is back with the 144th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City broke a nearly two-month winless streak on Saturday night against the Colorado Rapids. The streak went back to their last win, also against the Rapids, on July 4th in Commerce City. And while “winless” is technically right, it was worse than that. Between victories over Colorado, Sporting KC were 0-5-1, with just a single draw against NYCFC.
A Weather Tarnished Weekend for Kansas City Soccer
For the Glory KC is back with the 143rd episode of the show! Weather was top of mind in the two Kansas City versus Orlando matches as both games experienced three plus hour delays. Sporting Kansas City initially looked like they were going to keep some of the positive vibes from the San Diego game going when they had a solid first half against Orlando City. Then the second half happened. While the lightning delayed the game, the second half absolutely lacked electricity for Sporting KC.
Three Things that Went Very Well for Sporting KC versus San Diego
For the Glory KC is back with the 142nd episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City didn’t get the much-needed win against San Diego FC. It’s not unexpected when a team well below the playoff line plays the best team in the conference it may not work out. Sure, they lost 2-0, but I’m here to tell you they actually executed their gameplan exceptionally well. Their chances just didn’t go in. The dominated the expected goal (xG) battle, but the only number most will care about is the final score.
Sporting Kansas City Release Dany Rosero
On Thursday, Sporting Kansas City made a mildly surprising announcement that they were waiving center back Dany Rosero. A closer look shows maybe it’s not all that surprising. The Columbian defender had just five appearances (only two starts) during the 2025 season, despite Sporting KC being 24 games into the season. It’s a career low for Rosero who has been a regular starter for much of his career.
10 Games Left: These Sporting KC Players are Fighting for a Job
18 players. That’s how many men on the Sporting Kansas City roster are either out of contract, at the end of a loan, or have an option the team has to decide on ahead of 2026. There are only 26 guys on the roster. That’s 69 percent of the roster that can be turned over in one offseason! Now, that won’t happen. A quick glance at the full list (which is missing Alan Montes, but he’s among the 18) shows a lot of guys that will surely be around in 2026.
Sporting KC have Won Just Three of their Last 13 Games
For the Glory KC is back with the 141st episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City are slipping. Both in results and down the table. Their latest loss, a 3-0 shelling at the hands of the Vancouver Whitecaps, leaves them back in 13th place in the Western Conference and six points out of the final playoff spot with just 10 games to go. In fact, the team has won just three times in their last 13 attempts. The team is 3-5-5 in that stretch having picked up just one point in the last three games.
The Transfer Window is Open, What Positions Should Sporting KC Target?
It’s Thursday, July 24th, the Major League Soccer secondary transfer window is officially open. MLS teams have until August 21st to sign players for the stretch run (or to get a head start on 2026). The sooner deals are done; the sooner players can take the field. If Sporting Kansas City were to wait until the end of the transfer window to get players in, much like they did with Joaquin Fernandez last year, they would leave very little time for any signings to make an impact.
Sporting KC Come Back Down to Earth
For the Glory KC is back with the 140th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City returned home to a not very warm welcome from the Seattle Sounders. After getting out to a 3-0 lead in the first half, Sporting KC managed to claw their way back and nearly earn a point but ultimately fell 3-2. Kerry Zavagnin made some halftime adjustments, and his strikers went out and earned penalty kicks and drained their chances in the second half. It just wasn’t enough to overcome the large deficit.
Sporting KC vs. Dallas: A Game of Misfortunes
For the Glory KC is back with the 136th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City have lost back-to-back games for the first time in the Kerry Zavagnin era. While results haven’t been perfect, it’s a testament to how much better this team is. Against FC Dallas, it felt like an opportunity to avoid this very result as Dallas entered the game on a six-game winless streak. And it really felt like Sporting KC were the better side on the night. At least until things went off the rails.
Jansen Miller Leans Further into his Villain Era
For the Glory KC is back with the 135th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City came back down to earth this week with a tough loss against Los Angeles Football Club on the road. Things looked bright early when Dejan Joveljic scored his 10th goal of the season off a Manu Garcia assist. But the lead didn’t even last until halftime. Calamitous set piece defending led to a 1-1 halftime score and the capper on a bad game for Memo Rodriguez led to the game winning penalty kick for Denis Bouanga.
Pulskamp has Proved Himself as an MLS Starter
For the Glory KC is back with the 134th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City went on the road and picked up a massive three points in a statistically defiant weekend. It was their first win in Houston since October 3, 2020. They had been 0-3-3 in their prior six visits in all competitions. The victory also broke a 19-game winless streak when they gave up the first goal in a game.
A Wild Sporting KC Comeback and an Ode to Gadi Kinda
For the Glory KC is back with the 133rd episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City had a very heavy week. After the unexpected passing of former teammate Gadi Kinda, the team had to try to find a way to host the New England Revolution. It looked grim early as the team fell down 2-0 before staging a wild eight minutes in the second half where they scored three times to take the lead.
KC Current Injury Updates and Bassong to Miss LAFC Clash
A times, there is just so much soccer we can’t keep up. The Digital Crawl will allow us to catch up while paying homage to Digital Takiwira, the first goal scorer in Kansas City Wizards history. Not to mention it’s a bit of a ‘digital crawl’ on the bottom of the screen on ESPN and various news channels. Check out the Digital Crawl archives if you missed any stories. Plus, it’s a nice tie in for a similar segment at the end of every episode of the For the Glory KC podcast.
Lo LaBonta Earns First Ever USWNT Call Up
The Kansas City Current are in the middle of a fantastic season. The team sits in first place; four points clear of the next closest team. The 2025 season just got a little sweeter for at least one player on the team. Captain Lo’eau LaBonta earned her first ever call up to the United States Women’s National Team. The call comes after 11 seasons in the NWSL, 166 regular season matches and a four-year collegiate career at Stanford University.
The Force was With Sporting Kansas City
For the Glory KC is back with the 131st episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City made Major League Soccer history this week. While it’s not the history that anyone really wants to make, taking zero shots in a game, the part that is historic is they won. No team in the 30 years of MLS has ever failed to take a single shot and still found a way to win. The 1-0 win over the basement dwelling LA Galaxy wasn’t easy.
The 200 Day Winless Streak Ends for Sporting KC
For the Glory KC is back with the 127th episode of the show! Our long national nightmare is over! Sporting Kansas City have finally won a game. New interim coach Kerry Zavagnin is a perfect 1-0-0 and he got the best of Sporting KC’s rival, St. Louis City SC. It put an exclamation point at the end of a tumultuous and emotional week for anyone in and around Sporting KC. Sheena and I work through the big moments of the game.
Calls for Resignations and a ‘Promising’ Sporting KC Loss
For the Glory KC is back with the 125th episode of the show! We were all set to talk about another Sporting Kansas City loss when Sunday the KC Cauldron and South Stand “demanded” Peter Vermes resigns his jobs. We started there and then moved into discussing another loss. In terms of the cries for Vermes’ resignation, Sheena and I get into whether we actually think this will happen and the case to be made for and against him leaving.
LOOK: 15 High-Res Pics of the KC Current’s Teal Kit
Our long national nightmare is over. The Kansas City Current have finally given the people what they want. A teal kit! The KC Current “joined” the NWSL at the end of 2020 when the rights to the Utah Royals were moved back to Kansas City by owners Chris Long, Angie Long and Brittany Mahomes. While they wouldn’t get the branding as the “Current” until halftime of the final game of the season, “Teal” has been in their brand identity basically the whole time. There is Teal Mobile. Teal Time. Teal Town.
Should we get Worked up About the Sporting KC Losses?
For the Glory KC is back with the 120th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City played their first two competitive games of 2025. While we warned you not to overreact to the initial results, it hasn’t stopped a slice of the fanbase from getting quite worked up. We work our way through both the freezing cold of the Inter Miami game and the slightly less cold, but rainy Austin FC game to talk takeaways. Daniel Salloi caught a fair amount of grief for his performance in both games.
Will Messi Play and Where do Sporting KC Need to Add Players?
For the Glory KC is back with the 119th episode of the show! This weeks’ episode ventured into the “a little bit more in depth” as we break down Sporting Kansas City’s media day and how all the information we learned impacts the roster. The team has said they are still looking to make a big signing. My KC Soccer Journal colleague, Josh Wallace helps breakdown the roster and we both weigh in where we think the team needs to add players.
LOOK: 10 High Resolution Pics of Sporting KC’s New Jersey
On Friday, Sporting Kansas City unveiled their new 2025 primary kit. Dubbed the “One KC” kit, it features the hoops design that has become the team’s brand since the 2021 launch of Hoops 2.0. The jersey is in the familiar “Sporting Blue” and accented with indigo “hoops.” What is a little more subtle is the “state line” pattern across the hoops. A keen eye will show the familiar border between Kansas and Missouri that divides Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO.
Sporting KC Want to Add Players “All Over the Place”
For the Glory KC is back with the 118th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City had a very busy week with two more preseason games under their belts. Before that they locked down the signings of Designated Player Manu Garcia and Russian winger Shapi Suleymanov. Sheena and I discuss where they fit into the team and if it makes us more confident going into CONCACAF Champions Cup and the 2025 MLS season.
Sporting KC Finally Make a Big Signing
For the Glory KC is back with the 117th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City kept us on our toes through an entire phase of preseason, but they finally got a blockbuster deal over the line on Saturday night. The team announced they paid the LA Galaxy $4 million for star striker Dejan Joveljic to make him their newest Designated Player. We break down his history (he’s just 25) in Los Angeles, Germany and Serbia.
KC Current Kit Leak, Ball and Hamilton Re-Sign, SKC Rumors
A times, there is just so much soccer we can’t keep up. The Digital Crawl will allow us to catch up while paying homage to Digital Takiwira, the first goal scorer in Kansas City Wizards history. Not to mention it’s a bit of a ‘digital crawl’ on the bottom of the screen on ESPN and various news channels. Check out the Digital Crawl archives if you missed any stories. Overreacting about the Sporting KC’s Preseason Loss?
For the Glory KC is back with the 115th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City have folks a bit worried after a 1-0 loss to Florida International University. We talk through the concerns of the fans and weigh in on if we are concerned at all. Sheena and I also take a look at who did and who didn’t play against FIU. After the game the media talked to Peter Vermes, Mason Toye and Stephen Afrifa.
Sporting KC Open their 2025 Preseason with a Loss
The 2025 preseason kicked off today in Miami when Sporting Kansas City played a 60-minute game against Florida International University (FIU), the alma mater of Stephen Afrifa. It’s the first of a six-game preseason slate that runs through February 12th against the USL Championship’s Las Vegas Lights. In between these two lower tiered opponents, Sporting KC play four MLS teams: the Chicago Fire, Charlotte FC, New York City FC and Minnesota United.
Ten Important Quotes about the 2025 Sporting KC Season
This past Saturday, Sporting Kansas City players reported to KC for the start of the 2025 preseason. In conjunction with the players arriving was the first press conference of the new season. Reporters got to speak to Chief Soccer Officer and Manager Peter Vermes, Sporting Director Mike Burns, new Homegrown signing Jacob Bartlett, the team’s 2024 MVP Jake Davis and 2024 Offensive Player of the Year Erik Thommy.
Sporting KC “Will Have Additional Signings to Announce”
For the Glory KC is back with the 114th episode of the show! Sporting Kansas City had a lot of news this week. Two signings were made. The first was the addition of 19-year-old Homegrown Jacob Bartlett who was followed by veteran MLS striker Mason Toye. We break down what the signings mean, and what they don’t. Then Sheena and I get into the numerous quotes from the press conference with Chief Soccer Officer Peter Vermes and Sporting Director Mike Burns.
A Way Too Early 2025 Sporting KC Depth Chart
On Saturday, Sporting Kansas City players will report to KC ahead of the first leg of preseason in South Florida. To say there has been some consternation about the roster build (or lack thereof) is an understatement. The team is up to 20 players signed for the 2025 season, with 10 roster spots still open. The rosters for preseason haven’t been announced yet, but the KC Soccer Journal has been able to confirm at least one player will be on trial.
