Back to Kazoo | By Derek Jeter
Kalamazoo is where my sister Sharlee and I grew up, and the city has given us so much. That’s why I was extremely proud that my Turn 2 Foundation recently hosted a number of events in Kalamazoo — as a small way to give back and say thank you.

On a typical summer evening between home games at Dodger Stadium, Chavez Ravine is quiet while players spend their off day someplace else. But since 2014, the empty stadium has been converted for one night every August into a March Madness-style table tennis venue. The occasion is Clayton Kershaw’s Ping-Pong 4 Purpose, a competitive ping-pong tournament that raises money for the ace pitcher’s charity foundation, which focuses on at-risk youth in Los Angeles, Africa and the Dominican Republic.
A Boy From Cali | By Cory Hahn
The ball smacked into my mitt. For the first time all season, a ball had been hit to centerfield. Which was my position. You see, this wasn’t a routine fly ball. This was my first putout in an Arizona State uniform. There hadn’t been a ball hit to centerfield in our opener. I had to wait until the first inning of our second game to cross that achievement off my list.

I was soaked. I could hardly see. It was 2015, and I was a 23-year-old Dodgers rookie who was headed to the playoffs. You know the scene: The locker room was electric, corks popping, beer spraying. It was pure pandemonium. Just before I could take in how surreal the moment actually was, I saw my brother Champ across the room. Goggles on. Pouring champagne on his head right along with the guys. Of course, he’s not a player, but it was just natural to see Champ there.

My grandmother loved watching Tiger Woods. This was back when he was winning every tournament and Phil Mickelson was always in the mix. She loved Phil, too. Those are my favorite memories of her. We’d sit on the couch — both sick from the chemo — and watch all the biggest golf tournaments together. She was the first to find out she was sick. I was getting tests done, and my mother was asking why I was getting CAT and PET scans because she had just gone through the same tests with my grandmother.
