Currency Crisis in New World
A Crisis of Coin Players in New World are experiencing a rare economic crisis, at least within the scope of online gaming: deflation. More money is leaving circulation than can be replaced. MMO players are more familiar with the opposite issue of rampant inflation, as most MMOs do not have enough currency sinks to prevent the accumulation of money, leading prices for materials, armor, items, housing, or anything in-between to rise, often rapidly.
Guarantee the US guarantee
We are all relieved to see the Pyeongchang Peace Initiative blooming. But is there any room for optimism going into the June 12 U.S.-North Korea Summit between the U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean Chairman Kim Jong Un? If the past is any indicator, the chances are high that the summit will be a failure. There may be no deal, or else it will be a short-lived one like all the previous nuclear deals with North Korea.
South Korea didn't have to sign the armistice
There is a prevailing belief that says South Korea should have signed the armistice agreement ending fighting in the 1950-1953 Korean War. Some say that since President Syngman Rhee did not sign it, only the U.S., or even the United Nations (U.N.), can sign a peace treaty with North Korea. Others even go so far as to say that the Korean War persists in its unended state because President Rhee "refused" to sign the armistice. However, these arguments are problematic.
Should South Korea go for nukes? Big no
Should South Korea go nuclear? Calls for South Korea to go nuclear go up each year with each new North Korean nuclear test. Polls indicate the idea enjoys wide popular support. Unfortunately, it's a case of putting the cart before the horse. South Korea going nuclear is counterproductive, unnecessary, and risky. This is especially so from the perspective of its national security and economy which depend on global peace.
Is peace treaty prelude to invasion?
There is a prevailing myth among some "experts" that the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea or North Korea) wants a peace treaty with the U.S. in order to militarily invade ROK (Republic of Korea or South Korea) again. Now there is nothing new about the occasional shows of threats and counter threats that characterize the ongoing Korean War.
NPT's failure, our failure with NK
The threat of mutually assured destruction (MAD) has worked between the superpowers and kept peace throughout the Cold War. But whether it happens or not, nuclear weapons still pose a risk to human civilization. Analysts suggest that it was a miracle we avoided an accidental nuclear holocaust. Thus, it is in our interest to promote the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty). The NPT has done much to reduce the number of nuclear bombs in the world.
Comprehensive peace regime
This year marks the 64th year since the Korean War. The war persists today, however, not on battlefields, but largely as a media spectacle. It's a Great Perpetual Propaganda War: An endless series of threats and counter-threats, accusations and counter-accusations. Before the 1990s, it was capitalism vs. communism. The fulcrum of discord today is nukes and missiles. Even if there were no nukes, there is still likely to be conflict. In game theory terminology the situation is akin to a Nash Equilibrium.
Confronting the naysayers: time to give Korean peace a chance
The year 2017 was a time of massive risk of war on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea claimed to have tested a hydrogen bomb as well as an inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM). US President Donald Trump promised “fire and fury” in retaliation and dispatched aircraft carriers and stealth bombers. Things climaxed early this month when North Korean leader Kim Jong-un boasted of the nuclear button on his desk. Trump retorted that he had a bigger one.
