Although it is by far the smallest U.S. military service, with only about a thousand more active duty personnel than the NYPD, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) traces its origin to the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service, and is the nation’s oldest continuous seagoing force. From the start, Coast Guardsmen and their forebears have engaged, albeit on a smaller scale, in the same conflicts as other armed forces.
CMMG 5.56/.22 LR M4S
If there were ever a rifle that could be truly called “America’s Rifle,” the AR-type rifles and carbines designed by Eugene Stoner and Jim Sullivan some 50 years ago fit the definition “to a T.” Because of its longevity, popularity and versatility, the AR has evolved into a rifle that truly can be said to be the most versatile firearm ever invented. The original rifle was designed as a 300-yard rifle, but recent versions can “reach out and touch someone” out to 800 yards or more.
POF-USA P308-12-MRR 7.62mm NATO
The short-barreled POF-USA P308 accepts a variety of tactical accessories preferred and used by many SpecOps units — including EOTech HWS, SureFire M900 WeaponLight, Laser Devices DBAL-A² and OSTI AN/PVS-22 Universal Night Sight. The AR small arms family, which includes the current standard M4 carbine, hasn’t exactly been covering themselves with glory in the War on Terror presently being waged in Afghanistan, Iraq and other charming spots around the globe.
Night Defender .45 ACP | Colt 1911 Handgun Review
As John Browning’s masterpiece 1911 design approaches its centennial, the classic shows no sign of losing popularity among every shooter—from law enforcement SWAT to military special operations and just about anyone who wants the ultimate in reliable combat handgun stopping power.
Fulton Armory 7.62mm TITAN
Fulton Armory has long been noted as a producer of high quality rifles, including every type of semi-auto rifle used by the United States military in the 20th Century—M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, M14 (M1A) and AR-15 type—all have been produced by Fulton Armory. Fulton Amory has been producing its Titan series of .308 AR-type rifles for several years, but the most recent version redefines the series.
American Precision Arms Raven .308 Win
Precision tactical rifles are a growth industry these days. Not only are the big guys like Remington and FNH building precision tactical rifles with the law enforcement precision marksman in mind, but there are also many custom builders who make precision tactical rifles.
Gun Test: Remington 700 VTR .308Win
Since Remington’s classic Model 700 was introduced in 1962, it has been a mainstay of civilian, military and law enforcement users. The Model 700 action is so strong and easily enhanced for improved performance that it has served as the basis for both the US Army and US Marine Corps’ sniper rifles. The Army’s M24 and the Marines’ M40 series and it is still serving on the overseas battlefields in Afghanistan and Iraq and at home with law enforcement snipers.
McMillan TAC-50 Bolt-Action Rifle .50BMG
When the Department of Homeland Security evaluates special tactical police units, one critical factor is the presence or absence of a .50BMG caliber precision rifle. At first blush, a .50BMG rifle may seem to be overkill in an urban or even rural environment, but there are certain situations when nothing else will do. For example, subjects barricaded behind barriers that are impervious to smaller calibers can be defeated with a .50 caliber rifle.
Kimber Gold Combat II .45ACP M1911 Handgun Review
Few mechanical devices have survived basically unchanged for so long as the classic M1911-type pistol. As the pistol approaches its centennial, it is just as viable for law enforcement or personal defense as it was when it sprang from the genius of John Browning in 1910. Yes, 1910. Browning designed the pistol in 1910, but it was not tested and accepted by the US Army until 1911, whereupon it was designated M1911. Slight modifications were made in 1922 and that model was designated M1911A1.
