More than just a platform of wood or composite planks, your deck is an extension of your living space — a place for gathering with friends, enjoying quiet mornings, or hosting evening cookouts.
A fast radio burst localized at detection to an edge-on galaxy using very-long-baseline interferometry - Nature Astronomy
|
Abstract Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are millisecond-duration radio transients whose origins remain unknown. As the vast majority of bursts are one-off events, it is necessary to pinpoint FRBs precisely within their host galaxies at the time of detection. Here we use two purpose-built outrigger telescopes to localize FRB 20210603A at the time of its detection by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME).

A deep-learning search for technosignatures from 820 nearby stars - Nature Astronomy
Abstract The goal of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) is to quantify the prevalence of technological life beyond Earth via their ‘technosignatures’. One theorized technosignature is narrowband Doppler drifting radio signals. The principal challenge in conducting SETI in the radio domain is developing a generalized technique to reject human radiofrequency interference.
Why it is time to dispel rape myths and racism from criminal trials in Hong Kong
A seven-person jury – made up of four men and three women – arrived at a baffling conclusion at Hong Kong’s High Court last month, unanimously acquitting a couple of rape. Chan Chim-tak, 48, was cleared of two counts of rape and attempted rape against X, a migrant domestic worker he employed. Chan’s then-wife, Lai Chi-san, 36, was exonerated of aiding and abetting the alleged rape and indecently assaulting X.
Analysis of the Breakthrough Listen signal of interest blc1 with a technosignature verification framework - Nature Astronomy
Abstract The aim of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) is to find technologically capable life beyond Earth through their technosignatures. On 2019 April 29, the Breakthrough Listen SETI project observed Proxima Centauri with the Parkes ‘Murriyang’ radio telescope. These data contained a narrowband signal with characteristics broadly consistent with a technosignature near 982 MHz (‘blc1’).

Seven female directors you should know about
We are often confronted with appalling statistics on the lack of women working behind the scenes in the film industry, or horror stories about how female directors are shoved into ‘movie jail’ after one critical or commercial failure, while their male contemporaries still receive prestigious job offers in the same situation. The most effective way to combat such discriminatory treatment is to support female filmmakers.
