PHILLIPS: Our commitment to community in 2026 Original
The start of a new year always brings reflection — and for a community newspaper, it also brings resolve. The world keeps changing, and the news business certainly isn’t immune to that. But one thing hasn’t changed and won’t: our commitment to this community and the people who call it home. This local newspaper is a hometown operation, brought to you by people who live here, work here, raise families here, and care deeply about what happens in our towns and neighborhoods.

Empowering small newsrooms: The rise of data journalism in local media - Editor and Publisher
Posted Tuesday, June 4, 2024 12:00 am Journalists are great at asking questions. And that’s really what data journalism is. You’re just interviewing the data to look for patterns and outliers. It’s just a different style of interviewing as well. I think it’s really doable for somebody who doesn’t have a lot of expertise. They just must be willing to ask questions about the data.” It’s becoming a regular part of the award season.

7 low highway bridges hold similar risks to Skagit span
Washington state has seven other highway bridges with clearances as low as the Interstate 5 Skagit River bridge, where an overheight load destroyed one of four spans last week. These seven bridges measure 14 feet 6 inches or less at their lowest overhead clearance. They are “fracture-critical,” meaning a single broken beam could cause collapse.
