Applying a Circular Economy to the Water Community: A Holistic Approach
The water community's continued adherence to a traditional, use-and-discard linear economy could be detrimental to the environment and the global population. Circular economies realize financial and ecological benefits by fully optimizing resources and products through reduction of materials and waste, recovery of materials for reuse, and recycling.
Collaboration Is the Key to Success in Life and the Water Sector
As Henry Ford said, “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at 20 or 80. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.” It's a good thought for us in the water profession. We might also ask ourselves, “How do we keep learning and keep our minds young?” I believe the key is in collaboration. That may indeed be the reason I'm still a part of AWWA's Young Professionals Committee.

Aquifer Storage and Recovery: Can an Updated Inventory Predict Future System Success?
A common water management practice is for treated or treatable water to be pumped below ground and stored to preserve and protect current water resources, prepare for future droughts, recharge wellfields, and store water for use at a later time to sustain development (AWWA 2015).

Total Water Solutions: Integrated Water Resource Planning
Ensuring long-term reliability and resiliency of water delivery, along with protecting public health from the source to the tap, are paramount for water utilities. However, only a limited number of communities can rely on a single water source to meet their current and future water demand. The management of water, wastewater, reuse, stormwater, and other lower-quality water is all closely inter-related, and each is a valuable resource.
AWWA Standard Supports Utility Efforts to Protect Source Water
Drinking water utilities can turn to AWWA Standard G300 as the definitive standard for source water supply protection. Now an operational guide provides further support. ONE OF AWWA'S MAIN GOALS is to help water utilities evaluate and improve their water quality, operations, maintenance, and infrastructure. Several AWWA programs and publications—including standards—support this mission.
