Chief Michael Vogel

Chief Michael Vogel is a retired Fire Chief and United States Marine Corps veteran with more than 30 years of leadership in fire, emergency medical, and emergency management services. Born on August 17, 1965, in Toledo, Ohio, he chose a path of public service shortly after graduating from high school. In 1984, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He served as a Field Communications Specialist and earned the rank of Lance Corporal. His military service concluded in 1988 with an honorable discharge. He is recognized as a disabled veteran with a service-connected rating. The structure and discipline he gained in the Marines shaped his approach to leadership throughout his career.

Transition into the Fire Service

After completing his military commitment, Michael J. Vogel began his fire service career as a volunteer firefighter with the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department in Cypress, Texas, serving from 1993 to 1996. He later joined The Woodlands Fire Department as a full-time firefighter and paramedic from 1996 to 1998. During that same period, he also served part-time as a captain at the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department. These early roles allowed him to build practical experience in emergency response while taking on increasing responsibility.

Arlington Fire Department Leadership

In June 1998, Michael joined the Arlington Fire Department in Texas, where he would spend more than 20 years of his career. Over time, he advanced through every operational rank, including Firefighter/Paramedic, Apparatus Operator, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain, Hazmat Captain, Battalion Chief, and ultimately Deputy Fire Chief and Shift Commander. In senior leadership, he oversaw 17 stations, including engine, truck, squad, rescue, gas well response, and specialized rescue units. He managed a $70-million budget and supervised large teams, focusing on operational readiness and consistent service delivery.

Executive Roles in Texas and Florida

In 2019, Vogel served as Fire Chief for the Paris Fire Department in Texas, where he managed a $5-million budget, directed 52 firefighters, and supervised 9 code enforcement staff, while also serving as Director of Code Enforcement. Later that year, he became Assistant Fire Chief for Alachua County Fire Rescue in Gainesville, Florida. From September 2019 to May 2022, he led the hiring of nearly 100 personnel, completed an ISO inspection, and partnered with the Red Cross to implement a countywide smoke detector program.

Michael then served as Fire Chief of the Newberry Fire Department in Florida from June 2022 to February 2025. During this time, he converted front-line apparatus to Advanced Life Support response and secured over $1 million in grants. From 2023 to 2024, he concurrently served as Interim Fire Chief of the High Springs Fire Department in Florida, overseeing personnel and a $ 2.5 million budget during a leadership transition.

Education, Certifications, and Personal Life

Chief Michael Vogel earned an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Technology from San Jacinto College and completed executive leadership programs at the University of Notre Dame. His certifications include Master Firefighter, Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Technician, and paramedic licenses in Texas and Florida.

He has been married to Amy Sue Vogel since October 22, 1994. Together, they have five adopted children: Levi, Maverick, Cavender, Crosby, and Mykie Sue. His life reflects long-term service, leadership, and commitment to family and community.
