'Bluey' Creator Sheds Some Light on What's Bugging Bandit in "Stickbird"
One thing that makes Bluey compulsively watchable, even for grownups, is its relatable adult characters. Case in point: in the beach episode “Stickbird,” something is clearly eating at Bandit (David McCormack). But what? Did something happen? Are we supposed to know what’s going on with him? To recap: the family is vacationing at the beach, but while Chilli (Melanie Zanetti) is teaching Bluey and Bingo how to throw sticks, Bandit sits by their umbrella, staring pensively into space.
Even the God Loki Funko Pop Looks Depressed
Loki season 2 has ended, and as is tradition, the new Funko Pop has dropped. And wow, is this little guy a downer! The Pop shows Loki in his final form: “God Loki,” sitting on a golden throne he never wanted. Around him, you can see the gold-veined stone of He Who Remains’ citadel, which also forms the latest version of his iconic horned crown. Pops generally don’t come with mouths, but you can see from Loki’s upturned eyebrows that he’s not thrilled to be there.
People who’ve been let go, what’s the most helpful thing others can do?
Definitely linkedin recommendation. Be specific about the person's accomplishments, skills, and integrity. Some layoffs ago, HR actually had the nerve to send an email warning people not to write letters of recommendation, since you were a "representative" of 3M,and 3M had deemed the person expendable. It would be like you telling prospective employers that 3M screwed up firing them. I said sc--w it. Letters are coming their way. They can fire me too and I'll see them in court.
Hooked On Books: The Magic Of Motherhood
Mother’s Day is celebrated on Sunday, May 12, and millions of mothers will receive flowers, chocolates, beautiful finger-painted pictures and maybe even a day of rest. For 21 years, I’ve had the privilege to celebrate Mother’s Day, but I learned the hard way that motherhood isn’t always joyful. As I’ve walked through my motherhood journey, I have realized that we all have different experiences as mothers. Dear new mothers or struggling mothers—don’t let comparisons steal your joy of motherhood.

'Justice League' is officially, really and truly DC's lowest grossing movie
It’s over, guys. Justice League has finally ended its domestic box office run and it’s now officially the lowest grossing film in the DC Extended Universe. Director Zack Snyder’s multi-hero blockbuster starring Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg, the antithesis to Marvel’s Avengers, made $229 million at the U.S. box office since opening in November 2017. The film couldn’t top Man of Steel, next rung up, which made $291 million at the U.S. box office.
Chin Up: Mapping my big board for healthy living
I don’t care for New Year’s resolutions. They don’t really mean anything so they don’t really inspire me. But I’m not talented enough to just go out there and wing it as a wannabe triathlete, runner or cyclist. Or, apparently what some call a vision. Last January, I bought a bulletin board as big as a coffee table and a giant calendar. I tried to map out a path from my cozy little couch to that scary starting line.
Chin Up: Dietitian offers insight on impact of drinking wine
So are we supposed to be drinking wine or not? On the one hand, so many nutritionists, fans of clean eating, doctors and insurance companies sure do like it when we don’t. On the other hand, one ingredient in wine is thought to be good for our heart and overall health, we are told again and again, usually by someone holding a glass of red wine.
Chin Up: Busy times for 'industrial athletes'
On Friday, longtime UPS driver Greg Richie advised a room full of drivers at the branch in Middleton to go grocery shopping, then go home, hydrate and get plenty of sleep to get ready for the big week of work ahead. Working for UPS is such a physically demanding job that if drivers don’t take care of their bodies, they won’t be delivering your boxes. And today will probably be the most demanding day of the year.
Chin Up: Throwing strikes with a heart pump
Tyrone Morris was willing to quit smoking, willing to drop a few pounds, willing to reduce his sodium intake, willing to travel across town to meet with doctors and follow their rules, willing to ask his retired parents and close friends for help with the cost of his medicine. He was willing to accept the fact that while he sometimes felt fine, his heart was shutting down.
Chin Up: Fitness club gets teens to talk
Exercising the brain, and positive thoughts, and empathy, and respect, and verbal and nonverbal communication, and supporting the guy next to you – well, that’s even better, especially for our teenage boys. So John Parkhurst came up with an idea: Why not work on both at the same time?
Chin Up: Punching back at Parkinson's
If you really want to see people transform their mood, have them slip on a pair of boxing gloves. We were designed to scratch, claw, punch and fight our way out of our valleys, overcome our setbacks and conquer our lives. If Parkinson’s disease tries to rob some of us of our most basic daily functions, like walking and talking, it’s more than fair to pull on the Everlasts.
Chin Up: Turkey trots part of our Thanksgiving tradition
Thanksgiving Day has surpassed the Fourth of July as the biggest day for organized runs in the United States, according to Running USA. Across the country, a record 901,753 runners finished some kind of run in 2015 on the Thursday holiday. It’s become a Milwaukee tradition as well. Father Dan Janasik is a priest at St. Leonard’s Church in Muskego, but he’s also become a fast runner with his training in recent years, with a personal record of 24 minutes for a 5K.
Chin Up: Cryotherapy not just for pro athletes
Melanie Ownley stepped into the chamber, closed the door and removed the robe. The liquid nitrogen was cranked on and the vapors surrounded her. Within seconds the temperature plunged to 25 degrees below zero. Then 50. Then 100. She shifted from side to side, feeling the chill grip her toes, then her hands, then settle into her legs, then her core. She endured one minute. Two. Three.
Chin Up: A runner's best friend has four legs
Every runner has been there at least once. Cruising along, minding our own business, zoned out to music, maybe our own thoughts, lost in a world of endorphins and adrenaline, when out of our peripheral vision, it lunges. Holy border terrier. In the shadows, a four-fanged, spike-collared beast emerges. Barking. With shreds of the postal carrier’s pants leg still showing in his teeth. A stare down ensues as runner and beast size each other up. Is it a menacing-looking German shepherd?
Chin Up: Fit-minded but sugar addicted
If Aaron Sorkin needed a few hits of cocaine to tap in to his creative nerve to write A Few Good Men, Moneyball and Steve Jobs, I need at least 50 grams of the other white stuff — sugar — to bang out readable sports copy. It took a Cherry Coke, doughnuts and a candy bar to crank out a Nyjer Morgan profile back in 2011 and more cinnamon rolls than I will ever admit at a local coffee shop to pound out a Brett Favre project in 2008. I had no Dove Dark Chocolate & Mint Swirls to write this column.
Chin Up: Jillian Michaels still gets it
Some of us continue to struggle with making good choices that affect our health and weight even after we’ve learned better. We go back and forth, up and down, one step forward, one backward until we’re exhausted, and right back where we started. Somehow, Jillian Michaels gets it.
Chin Up: One declaration led to a first marathon
Five to eight cans of Diet Coke a day. Wine, chicken wings and pizza when dining out. A phase that meant a bowl of ice cream every night before bed. More alcohol, sometimes a little too much, sometimes a little too often. Some of it was just a habit, some of it was to cope with a divorce and some of it was probably a little bit of self-medicating for anxiety and panic attacks. None of it added up to obesity or a drastic wake-up call in the doctor’s office or something you’d see on a reality TV show.
Runners, walkers find sanctuary in spirited cemetery workout
One turn off of Forest Home Avenue in Milwaukee and suddenly you’re off the beaten path of pushy city buses and booming car stereos. Big, tall, grand trees are just beginning to give in to autumn’s gallery. Water fountains sooth the senses. Angel sculptures welcome with open arms. Old English gardens burst with the last of summer’s blooms. No crowds. It’s perfect for a fall run, walk or stroll — if you can just stop thinking about one little thing.
Chin Up: Why would anyone ever do this?
Dousman – We get it when people exercise and stay active. We do it for physical and mental health, to prolong and improve the quality of our lives. But when someone runs 50, 26 or even 13 miles up and down (and up and down, and up and down!) the hills of Kettle Moraine in The North Face Endurance Challenge’s weekend of racing, some of us have to ask: Why? For Pam Tovar of Delafield it’s really simple: “I’d sit on the couch and be depressed.
Chin Up: Al's still the best run in Milwaukee
On Saturday, about 15,000 people will line up at 12th St. and Wisconsin Ave. in the heart of the Marquette University campus for the Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk to raise money for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. The adventurous will dress up in costumes, the musicians' drum beats will echo off the high-rise buildings downtown and the cheering spectators will line up along the bridge over Lincoln Memorial Drive to wave in the runners on their final mile.
Chin Up: Some medals weigh more than others
I got one trophy as a kid: “Most Improved Player” from my high school volleyball coach. I have a letter jacket with a varsity letter and chevrons, and a team picture with our cherished regional championship plaque. That’s it. Even though I played three sports, for four years in high school. More than two decades later, I have a bulletin board full of medals from athletic events I’ve done since starting Chin Up three years ago and a drawer filled with even more – about 20 total.
Chin Up: Off-road biking doesn't have to be intimidating
Ducking branches and dodging tree trunks, sinking in sand and sliding through mud, barreling over roots and bouncing off rocks. It’s all part of the wild ride that is mountain biking. With guys to my left cruising by and shredding this single-track trail, my hands are hurting from gripping the brakes so tightly. Yes, a lot of people (raising my hand) find mountain biking pretty intimidating. And you definitely should try it.
Weekend mud Warriors win every time
I’m used to the looks I get from people when I tell them I’m signed up to do another crazy athletic adventure — this past weekend, it was the Warrior Dash in Franklin. I just haven’t worked out my standard reply yet. Do I tell them that it wasn’t so long ago that I took my first exercise class and was so self-conscious I felt too embarrassed to do jumping jacks because it made me feel vulnerable and exposed?
Two-day ride for MS draws dedicated crowd
What’s your reason to keep going? Not when there’s time to spare and nothing hurts — it is easy to work out then. What about the other 360 days of the year? At some point, we make the choice to fight through pain and push through the limitations and there’s usually a reason. “Because my wife is my freakin’ hero,” said Tom Griffith.
