FMJRA 2.0: Missed It By That Much
— compiled by As I mentioned Thursday, my Senators missed the playoffs by one game, finishing with a record of 78-84 while the Royals slipped into the last wildcard slot with a 79-83 record. I finished second in the Beta division, nine games behind the Twins and seven ahead of the Brewers, sixth overall in the AL.

Methods of Journalism 301
Welcome to J-School, boys and girls, and before we start today’s lesson, somebody needs to hit the tip jar for $16.04, for reasons to be explained later. This morning I had an online colloquy with my friend Ladd Ehlinger over the merits of When Harry Met Sally. It was Ladd’s contention that, as a director, Rob Reiner had never produced a masterpiece, to which my rejoinder was that he needed to rewatch that movie, which is certainly one of the best romantic comedies of all time.

Newly Released By Chris Cassone, “The Art of the Stomp Box” Is A Treat
by Smitty Chris Cassone is an old and dear friend of the blog, having recorded arguably the best blues ever: Thus, when word broke out about his new book, “ART OF THE STOMP BOX: Celebrating The Visual Artistry of Effects Pedals” I didn’t hesitate to order a copy. I have an equally old friend who is a guitarist and is getting married in June. When it arrived, I sent the book to Chris for an autograph. This volume will make a perfect wedding gift.

FMJRA 2.0: Down To The Wire
— compiled by Will the Senators make the playoffs? It all depends on the Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins. We took two of three from the A’s and then lost two of three to the Reds, our sole win coming from a ninth-inning rally against Dick Woodson and a solid relief inning from Diego Segui and Jim Shellenback.

The Go-Go's: We Got The Beat...of LA!
By Chris Cassone Many say the musical face of LA is The Doors, Van Halen, Guns and Roses, CSN or the Beach Boys. While their body of work is not as all encompassing, I am going to nominate the Go-Go’s for that position. Yes, the Go-Go’s—the most successful female rock band of all time. Say that again and let it sink in. Their first LP, “Beauty and the Beat,” sold north of three million copies and cemented them in their meteoric rise to the top.
MARRIAGE ZONE - 905 Cole Theatre
“The Marriage Zone” – 905 Cole Avenue, Hollywood July 27, 2025 By Chris Cassone cc@chriscassone.com The first five minutes of The Marriage Zone feel like any number of marital comedies: Beth and Cal, a comfortably numb middle-aged couple, volley barbs back and forth so crisply you almost forget you’re in a theater. Their passive-aggressive digs—about throat clearing to fixing an uneven table—are pitched with such authentic resignation that I was ready to reach for my phone.
THE GODDAMN COUPLE DOWN THE HALL - Theatre West
November 8, 2024, Opening Night By Chris Cassone | cc@chriscassone.com It's Christmas and writer Mark Wilding (Grey's Anatomy, among many others) didn't like the only choices out there: The Grinch and A Christmas Carol. So, he set to creating a unique and raucous romp about a "nuclear family with all their baggage," (his words, not mine.) With a sure-fire genre that crowds love, he picked crime drama. I've been listening to a lot of radio dramas on Sirius XM, and it never grows old.

"Horizon: An American Saga" - Chapter 1
Kevin Costner's epic love letter of the old West to us all arrived recently on Netflix. Chapter 1 of "Horizon; an American Saga" didn't fare so well on the big screen. Pulled from theaters after a dismal box office month, the $100 million film took in only $35 million worldwide to date. That's a shame because watching this passion play you can see the love he put into it. With three more chapters to come, I personally cannot wait.

HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS - THE MUSICAL - Hollywood Pantages Theatre
By Chris Cassone - cc@chriscassone.com Fresh from LA ComicCon with all of its cosplay, I was somewhat prepared for a repeat performance Wednesday evening at the palatial Pantages. As I approached the theater with a giant crowd milling about, mostly looking for non-existent spare tickets, I did a double take at all the Grinch wear. Little kids, Dad and Mom, the merch was everywhere - even green face paint. Was this some Rocky Horror time warp?
The Brain That Wouldn't Die Musical
Those lucky, or, depending on who you are, unlucky enough to catch Joseph Green's The Brain That Wouldn't Die, will likely remember the 1962 B-movie classic. The plot was relatively simple in its own sleazy ass way. A hot shot doctor, Bill Cortner, goes on a joyride with his fiancee, Jan. His reckless driving leaves him bruised and his ladyfriend stricken with a severe case of headlessness.
