Behind the scenes of building an Agile conference
This post is from Agile2025 Conference Chair Chris Murman. If you’ve ever attended an industry conference, most of the crowd has the same thought at some point or another. Regardless of your experience or level of expertise, you scan the program and wonder. Talking to people in between sessions, the sentiment grows. It for sure comes when you scan your notes at the end of the event.
Giving back to Agile – An experiment | Agile Alliance
Have you noticed that some people “get” Agile more quickly than others? This doesn’t seem to have much to do with seniority, tech/non-tech background, or the type of industry someone works in. At Integral Agile, we’ve been noticing — and acting on — this for years. We’ve recognized that certain individuals possess an innate agility – a blend of servant leadership, systemic thinking, empathy, accountability, playfulness, and a genuine desire to foster growth in others.
Agile2024: An Amazing Program Needs Amazing Reviewers
My first year submitting an agile conference abstract must have been quite an adventure for the review team. Even though there were required fields in the system, I had no clue what each of them meant. My brain was swimming with ideas, but I spent years learning how to format them. While I had friends in the profession willing to mentor me in creating a great abstract, I just didn’t know exactly what a winning submission was. I legit pasted my blog headlines and posts into the form.

A Little Knowledge is a Dangerous Thing
Would you try a new sport that involves risk of injury or harm without some form of guidance, training, or coaching? For most people, the answer is likely to be a very firm “no!” In contrast, organizations and teams new to Agile, or scaling, often adopt a “we’ll try it anyway” approach. The results vary from wasted time to delivery disasters.
Agile2023 has something for YOU this year
I’m sure most of us in this position have a similar story, but I didn’t intend on doing this. Speaking at and planning professional conferences, to be specific. When I first submitted to speak at a conference, it wasn’t because I wanted to help plan one someday. I was being selfish. Conferences are expensive, and my company wasn’t going to pay for me to attend one. It’s really hard work, no matter the size or length of the event.
Why do we need to submit this year?
You’ve read enough by now about what the pandemic did to us all. We fled our office spaces trying to stay safe. In-person events were canceled because we all weren’t comfortable attending. Everyone retreated into our homes where we, many of us still to this day, wrapped a cocoon around our homes trying to keep what was out there at bay. Many of us had to change jobs and roles during the pandemic. The uncertainty over how necessary we all are came up many times.
