I first wrote for my student newspaper ( to meet the then-deputy editor ) and did little satyrical riffs on student politics and campus life

To be able to communicate with others about something you are really passionate about is great.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Gosh, there are so many and if I read them all I would never get any work done. I like Bon Appetite, Decanter, and Noble Rot magazines.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
It's easy - food and drink is such a diverse and in-depth subject and everyone is passionate about at least one thing they eat.
