Against the backdrop of concerns about further escalation of economic and military conflicts, discussions at the International Monetary Fund-World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok centred around one dominant theme: how can we preserve what we have achieved? The additional yield that investors demand for holding long-term bonds, which are subject to various risks (the so-called “term premium”), has increased significantly between 2022 and 2025 as central banks worldwide ceased their large-scale asset purchases and reduced government bond holdings.

The outlook for the global economy has suddenly become almost cheerful: inflation is ebbing, growth appears resilient and markets are buoyant despite geopolitical risks.
