Apple apologises for 'tone-deaf' iPad Pro ad featuring destruction of cultural artefacts
Apple CEO Tim Cook seemed pleased when he tweeted the company’s latest iPad Pro ad, “Crush!”, on Tuesday (7 May). "Meet the new iPad Pro," he wrote. "Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create." But in order to illustrate the new tablet’s many creative possibilities, Apple decided that their iPad Pro should feature at the exclusion – or more specifically, annihilation – of all other creative objects.

An Italian artist is attempting to recreate Picasso’s “Guernica” in less than a fortnight
By Christian Moore Italian artist Ercole Pignatelli is attempting to recreate Picasso's Guernica in front of a live audience in only 12 days. When the Nazis decided to wade into the Spanish Civil War in 1937 in support of their fascist ally Francisco Franco, they did so by dropping bombs indiscriminately on the Basque town of Guernica. No distinction was made by those flying overhead between civilians and militants: many hundreds died, most of them women and children.

'Perhaps the future of the world then was to women?' - Parade's End turns 100 Original
By Christian Moore Despite its vintage, Ford Madox Ford’s bewildering, beguiling beast of a novel deserves all the readers it can get when it turns 100 this April. If the centenary is an appropriate anniversary for assessing a book’s staying power, then it’s probably about time to acknowledge that Graham Greene was wrong.

Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss says she knows how to save the West after 49 days in office

Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss says she knows how to save the West after 49 days in office
If there was anyone who imagined that, after kowtowing to Boris Johnson throughout his dismal premiership, leading her own dangerous and divisive culture war campaign for the Tory party leadership contest, crashing the UK economy in one afternoon, and resigning after a mere seven weeks as Prime Minister, Liz Truss would beat a quiet, shamefaced retreat from the public eye, then those people - and there can’t have been many - need to think again.
British sculptor Antony Gormley unveils new exhibition in English country estate Original
In a seat of aristocratic opulence, 100 life-size cast iron figures stand looking out in different directions. Clearly they are human, but get a little closer and their faces appear formless, blurred. In spite of this - or perhaps because of it - their every gaze is penetrating. One of the only things we can know about these enigmatic sculptures is that they are all male, for they are nude. Moulded, in fact, on the artist’s own physique.
Total eclipse of the art: How the disappearing sun has long captivated the creative imagination
By Christian Moore The upcoming 8 April total solar eclipse, which for a few minutes will appear to many North Americans to have extinguished the sun, is already casting a wide shadow. Blast from the past: Hear how music sounded and spread in 17th century England
By Christian Moore The sale and distribution of popular songs was completely different in the 17th century but there are still some elements which remain within today's music industry right across the continent, writes Christian Moore, Ballads were all the rage, and we’re not talking about Stairway to Heaven. These were songs sung straight from the mouths of balladeers: musicians who went from place to place setting lyrics to music for the public’s listening pleasure.

The prospective changes, which will require parliamentary and presidential approval before becoming law, include a proposal to abolish the special prosecutor’s office, which handles serious crimes such as graft, organised crime and extremism. Salikov claims he was in eastern Ukraine in 2014 when conflict erupted there, and again in 2022 when Russia launched its ongoing invasion. He is believed to have applied for asylum and could not be reached for comment on Tuesday. “I know where the orders came from,” he told EenVandaag via videolink in claims which could not be independently verified.
German court orders repeat of 2021 national election in parts of Berlin due to errors
A series of failings documented across hundreds of the capital’s polling stations means that Germany’s constitutional court has ordered the 2021 national election to be partially repeated. Infractions were identified in 455 of Berlin’s 2,256 constituencies, which by law will now have to hold a new vote within 60 days. The ruling comes more than two years after election day, 26 September 2021, when a host of logistical errors, inconsistencies and loopholes marred the city’s voting mechanisms.

Hiring Mistakes You Could Be Making
Bad hires happen. However, they happen a bit too often. Studies show that nearly three out of four employers admit to hiring the wrong job candidate. Maybe HR was in a rush to fill an important role or you hired someone because you knew the applicant and they seem nice enough. Or, someone didn’t take extra time to look into references and job history. The list of reasons for a bad hire goes on and on. Not only is it a financial burden, but a bad hire can also negatively affect employee morale.
