The creation of a festival
THE idea of God’s creative work is deeply and intentionally woven into Christian liturgy: in our prayers and in eucharistic worship, in the way we use material elements, and in the rhythm and structure of the church year itself. In recent years, however, many around the world have advocated something more: a dedicated liturgical celebration held on a common date across worldwide denominations.
Ben Currie linked with Leeds and one other club
Leeds Rhinos and one other Super League club are targeting Warrington Wolves back-rower Ben Currie as a signing for next year. Currie is off-contract at Warrington at the end of 2020 and has yet to make a decision on his future. Forty20 News understands Leeds and another Super League side, as yet unknown, are interested in landing the England international.
Hansen loving life in France as Toulouse activate contract extension
Toulouse have triggered a clause in Harrison Hansen’s contract that will see him remain at the club until the end of 2021. The former Widnes forward, who started his career with Wigan, joined Toulouse during the close-season. In a statement issued by the club, Toulouse say they are working to build a strong squad for 2021 and that Hansen is recognised as “a valuable member of the group”. Hansen said: “I am very happy to stay at the Toulouse next year.
Reports - NRL secures loan from British banks to keep clubs afloat
The latest reports in Australia suggest that the NRL is set to secure a loan of around AU$250m (approx £126m) to safeguard the future of member clubs. The Sydney Morning Herald’s Sam Phillips says that the game has been brought “to its keens” after broadcaster partners Nine and Fox skipped recent payments to the competition.
French RL cancels club season
The French Rugby League Federation (FFR XIII) has announced the cancellation of the ongoing 2019/20 season. The season was suspended last month but tonight’s announcement means that no matches will be played for the remainder of the campaign, with no winner declared. The decision, which concerns all levels of the professional hierarchy in France, was taken after proposals to play games behind closed doors didn’t attract sufficient support from members.
A natural optimist
Curly permed wigs are currently all the rage in east Hull, some worn with more style than others, but very few with a Scouser underneath! New hairstyles were certainly on show for derby day, as were replica face masks, all sported in tribute to Hull KR’s stricken Samoan forward, Mose Masoe. Hopefully, there will come a time when the main man is well enough to take in a Rovers’ game to receive the well wishes in person.
Survey the Wondrous Cross
The idea that Christianity is a historical religion is an ambiguous one. Certainly, Christianity is rooted in historical events. Jesus was born in Bethlehem when Quirinius was governor of Syria and was condemned to die on a cross when Pontius Pilate was prefect of Roman Judaea. However, the Christian religion is not only dependent upon certain historical events. It is a religion that itself has a long and complex history.
