Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Writing for The Clare Echo.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
never but I would like to one day.
How is social media changing news?
News is now instant, global and multi-dimensional.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Being a journalist means having an avid interest in what makes people tick and putting important issues under the microscope.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Microsoft Word.
Why did you become a journalist?
I became a journalist to tell stories in a different way and to find the depth within people and societal issues and translate this to paper.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
No pitch is a bad pitch. The worst pitch in my opinion is one that was never made, failing to ever leave the remnants of imagination.
What's your favorite drink?
Water and green tea. A cold coca-cola on a weekend ain't too bad either.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Reading, writing, talking to people or engaged in physical activity.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Sunday Independent.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Environmental issues are just for hippies.
