Cindy George’s Biography

Cindy George – an experienced journalist, Pulitzer finalist and digital storyteller – is the Senior Personal Finance Editor at GoodRx.

She was among the Houston Chronicle staff members named in the entry for Hurricane Harvey coverage honored as a 2018 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Breaking News.

Previously, she served as assistant editor of the Texas Medical Center’s news operation and its monthly magazine, TMC Pulse. After joining the TMC — the world’s largest campus of medical care, research, education and innovation — her strategic leadership of the TMC News website yielded record-breaking traffic in less than six months. In that role, she also served as a communications lead for Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s COVID-19 Health Equity Response Task Force and moderated a health equity conversation in 2019 at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.

Cindy advocated for media professionals, diversity and inclusion as Parliamentarian of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). She is the former chair of the NABJ Media Institute, the organization’s professional development arm that educates members and develops corporate partners. She also directed programming and marketing as chair of the annual NABJ Media Institute on Health in Washington, D.C. and coordinated two White House health briefings for journalists.

She has shared her expertise about health and legal issues on broadcast outlets including C-SPAN and BBC Radio. Her freelance work has appeared in EBONY, RICE Magazine, the NAACP's The Crisis and Heart & Soul magazines as well as BlackAIDS.org, the NABJ Journal and the Delta Journal of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Cindy’s reporting career has included roles at daily newspapers in New Orleans; Portland, Oregon; Raleigh, North Carolina; Pensacola, Florida; and Cincinnati. She graduated from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications and completed the MPH at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health.
