Strengthen automation through reliance on sound human judgment
Key Highlights Automation excels at routine tasks but relies on human judgment during unexpected or abnormal events, making effective interface design crucial. Implementing barriers, buffers, and alarm management strategies helps operators detect and respond to issues before they escalate, improving safety. Scenario-based training, including digital twins and virtual reality, prepares operators for real-world emergencies, enhancing decision-making under pressure.
A Night With Reality Royalty, Olivia Rodrigo Hysteria, And Gap's Dôen Vibes
When we stepped into the Lawn Club in downtown Manhattan on May 7th, we immediately knew we were among our people – reality TV people, that is. Reality stars, producers, casting directors, content creators, podcasters and journalists, all together in a room listening to the dulcet tones of John Denver as remixed by DJ Kyle Cooke, thanks to Vulture’s Reality Masterminds event.
Safety by Design: Why Smart Manufacturers Build Protection into Automation from the Start
As manufacturing production systems become more connected, more software-driven and more adaptable, facilities are improving throughput, quality and responsiveness via robotics, advanced control, machine vision, remote monitoring and data-rich interfaces. Yet even as manufacturers build out their capabilities, these complex technologies need a stronger and more deliberate approach to safety. Safety must be engineered into the foundation of the system.
'Age Of Attraction' Makes A Very Bad Case For Age-Gap Love
Photo Credit: Netflix / Canva We watched Netflix's latest experiment in romance, the age-blind dating show "Age of Attraction," with a blend of boredom and horror that eventually shaded into a spicier blend of horror and fascination. The show's finale dropped this week, and we are finally ready to weigh in.
'The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives' S4 E1-5: MomTok vs. DadTok
Photo credit: Hulu / Dakota Mortensen TikTok There are few moments more off-putting in season 4 of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” than when Jessi Draper’s husband, Jordan Ngatikaura, earnestly tells the camera that “DadTok is a lot funnier than MomTok.” But in a way, it also sets the tone of the season. “SLOMW” is now a reality show about Mormon (and lapsed Mormon) mom content creators who have become bonafide celebrities.

Rich Text Is Moving To Patreon!
Photo by Isha Ralhan on Unsplash Five years ago — almost to the day — we were both laid off from our jobs at HuffPost. We had spent a decade in the trenches of the digital media industry, and we’d seen the entire boom-and-bust cycle unfold. But we didn’t feel our work as culture critics and podcasters was done (and after ten years in the content mines, we certainly didn’t know how to do anything else!). To our eternal gratitude, Substack was there to catch us.

Who Gets To Be A Good Mom?
Photo credit: Simon & Schuster / Canva A decade or so ago, it seemed like the coolest kind of mom to be was a bad one. They blew off PTA meetings, were fueled by rosé, and wrote irreverent blogs about their children’s tantrums and diaper blowouts. They rejected the sentimentalized idea of motherhood as a sacred calling in service of which a woman must relinquish her independence, her sexuality, her anger, her very identity.

Four automation trends that will shape 2026
In 2025, the headwinds of market volatility, energy pressures, workforce shifts and escalating cyber risk created a pivotal moment for the process industries. Automation technologies such as industrial AI, interoperable control architectures, secure connectivity and digitally enabled workforce tools are changing plant operations, quietly but profoundly improving efficiency, reliability and safety across sectors.
Reflecting On 2025 As We Enter 2026
2025 felt more like a lifetime than a year. Personally and globally, a lot happened in the last 12 months — much of it filled with darkness and despair, but also punctuated by bits of joy and light. To round out 2025 and welcome in 2026, we decided to sit down and tape a bit of a reflection.

'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' S3 Eps. 6-10: MomTok Intervention
As people who talk and write about reality television professionally, we know that being on a high-profile show can incentivize people to act in all sorts of ways. Everything is heightened, everyone has an agenda, and everything is — even when it’s very real and raw — in some part for TV. So when you combine that landscape with sexual assault allegations, things very quickly become very icky.
'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' S3 Eps. 1-5: Sex Lies And Scripted Parts

And what unspeakable thing finally blew up Taylor and Dakota’s on-again-off-again relationship?

For this week’s episode, we’re trying something a little different: a grab bag! We had three topics we wanted to cover — our reactions to this week’s elections, Lily Allen’s buzzy divorce album, and the deeply unpleasant “Selling Sunset” S9 reunion — so we chatted about all three.
