Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
I haven't gotten one yet.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. It was my mum's one, an old Olivetti from the 1960s. I loved it. It was a physical, sensory experience. It was exhilarating, slow, frustrating. That sound!
How is social media changing news?
By being the news, unfiltered, unedited, uncurrated, and vastly overrated. Hopefully, it's just a stage - the tantrum stage
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Not the sickle and hammer
What's your favorite social network?
Like, really?
Who do you wish followed you?
My reputation
Why did you become a journalist?
I am not one.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No. There wasn't one.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Still thinking about this...
What's your favorite drink?
Mauritius tea, with lots of milk and brown sugar. Beats coffee
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Atlantic
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That I am serving someone else's interests. It's the other way around. I follow my beat.
