Clifford “Cliff” Boro is a San Diego-based entrepreneur, startup investor, and the Managing Partner of TurnTide Holdings – a venture studio focused on backing early-stage technology companies. With over 30 years of experience spanning hedge funds, venture-backed startups, and pioneering tech ventures, Cliff has a proven track record of building and leading organizations from the ground up. He has guided multiple companies to successful exits and forged high-profile partnerships, garnering significant media exposure along the way. His contributions across technology, finance, and community initiatives even earned him recognition as a White House “Champion of Change,” honoring his forward-thinking leadership and impact.
Cliff’s career began on Wall Street at the age of 17, where he worked under legendary hedge fund managers Michael Steinhardt and George Soros. At Steinhardt Partners, he developed one of the first real-time financial reporting systems to track fund performance, sparking his passion for using software to solve financial challenges. He went on to join Berg Partners as a trader and assistant portfolio manager, where he managed large bond and securities portfolios (trading hundreds of millions of dollars in assets) while co-developing vital trading software for the firm. Cliff later served as an Associate Portfolio Manager at Soros Fund Management, supporting George Soros’s global investment strategies with a focus on the Japanese markets. This early success in the finance world honed Cliff’s analytical skills and set the stage for his transition into tech entrepreneurship.
In 1996, Cliff co-founded Infogate (originally Internet Financial Network) in San Diego, aiming to revolutionize real-time financial information delivery. As Infogate’s Chairman and CEO, he raised $60 million in venture capital and secured strategic partnerships with media giants like USA Today, CNN, Fox Sports, and Bloomberg. Infogate’s innovative “push” technology platform delivered customized news to users and garnered acclaim from outlets such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. The company’s growth culminated in its acquisition by AOL Time Warner, marking a successful exit and solidifying Cliff’s reputation as a leader who could drive tech innovation in the finance space.
Cliff continued his entrepreneurial journey in the 2000s by co-founding and investing in a series of technology ventures. Through CVT Ventures, he played a key role in forming companies like Luxology and VideoEgg (which later became Say Media). He served as Chairman of Say Media, where his strategic insight helped propel the company’s growth in the digital media industry. In 2006, Cliff co-founded KidZui, a pioneering kid-friendly web browser and search engine that made the internet safer and more accessible for children. As CEO of KidZui, he forged major partnerships with Scholastic, Best Buy, and Toys “R” Us, rapidly expanding its reach and user base. KidZui’s success led to its acquisition by Saban Brands, and for his work empowering children online, Cliff was honored by the White House as a 2011 “Champion of Change” – a national recognition for innovators making a positive impact.
In 2012, Cliff co-founded The Team Group, where he helped launch 6sense, an AI-driven predictive analytics startup that has since grown explosively. As a founding board member of 6sense, he was instrumental in shaping the company’s early strategy and growth; today 6sense is reportedly valued at over $5 billion. Following this, Cliff continued to mentor and back new startups through Simplexity Holdings, a venture studio fund he co-founded to support early-stage technology companies. In this role, he not only provided capital but also hands-on guidance as a “co-founding” partner. He advised companies like Verse.ai (conversational AI for sales) and Chatmeter (local brand management SaaS) from their early days through successful exits. He has additionally served in key roles for portfolio ventures – for example, stepping in as Chairman of Verse.ai and supporting other startups as a board member or interim executive – demonstrating his commitment to nurturing companies until they thrive.
Beyond his startup endeavors, Cliff has been an active community leader and proponent of entrepreneurship. He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, and CNN for his insights into technology trends and business leadership. He also dedicates time to mentoring the next generation of founders, reflecting his belief in building strong relationships and giving back to the community. Cliff earned his undergraduate degree from Brandeis University and pursued graduate studies at New York University, grounding his practical experience in a solid academic foundation.
Today, Clifford “Cliff” Boro brings his extensive experience full circle as the Managing Partner of TurnTide Holdings, where he is building a new venture studio to empower the next wave of early-stage technology companies. In this role, he continues to champion tech innovation and entrepreneurship, leveraging the lessons learned from a lifetime of launching ventures and turning bold ideas into thriving businesses.
