What was your first job as a journalist?
As a technical articles writer for IT Toolbox in the early noughties

Yes, extensively, i predate regular modern day home wordprocessing
How is social media changing news?
Everyone's opinion can be interpreted as news and he who shouts the loudest or whose message echoes the most seems to drown all else
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Tolkien is good but I like the style of English satirical novelist Tom Sharpe
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Represent an appropriately distilled view of facts, people and events such that people aren't left unsure about your viewpoint

Wordpress, MSOffice, the Internet
What's your favorite social network?
I have a love/hate relationship with social media, at the moment LinkedIn serves a purpose but I stay in touch with friends and family on FB
Who do you wish followed you?
I don't really care too much about who follows me, it is more about who reads what I have to say and then shares it with those the know
Why did you become a journalist?
I think I have a way to tell a story that appeals to a certain kind of person
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
my high school didn't have one per se. I did produce an independent quarterly newsletter with paid subscribers & monthly scouting troop mag
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The rehashing of the iceberg of ignorance was a good one because I got to revisit a topic that I feel strongly about.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Check your facts and cross corroborate them as much as possible, it is easy to fall into the abyss, especially these days, of misinformation

There is no best time. Anytime works!

Anything that I don't really believe in, is hard to write or research, so I would say I haven't had one

Coffee, medium roast, at least once a day, milky strong, no sugar.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
on a walk, watching a TV drama or hanging out with friends

I don't have a favourite, I like The Monocle, Atlantic Monthly, Harvard Business Review and others
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
that the commentators actually have coalface experience with the technologies that they are talking about - most dont
