Tempest Viking V2 or Helson Shark Diver 45 SS
Hi All, I am considering either the Viking V2 or the Helson Shark Diver 45 SS for my next Tool Diver purchase and have been looking at both for a while. They are very similar in build specs, 45mm bezel, Miyota 9015 movement, 2000M Rating, Ratcheting dive extension, Great Lume ( Super luminova C3 on Viking not sure if its C3 on the Helson). Some differences on the Viking V2 is that the case back is now Titanium to lighten it up slightly and the Bezel is lumed and Ceramic.
NOMOS Glashütte wins the iF product design award for Ahoi
Win-win situation for the Ahoi model from NOMOS Glashütte: The iF product design award is the second international design prize for the sporty and extra water-resistant watch. And one of over 100 awards for NOMOS Glashütte Berlin/Glashütte, February 2014 . On course with Ahoi: The sporty timepiece from NOMOS Glashütte has recently impressed an international jury of design experts, winning the iF product design award.
American Watchmaking heritage and tradition....thoughts on a comeback?
Hey folks, I don't normally post here, but I felt this would be the best place for this topic. I am curious about the general thoughts on this as it came up twice this week. Bear with me, this may be a little long, but I am interested in seeing the dialogue it creates. First of all, I am American. I used to be one of those guys that always screamed the "Buy American!" chant.
Laco Aachen Review: just dont...
Hello, I wanted to share my experience with the Laco Aachen 42mm. My GF was wanted to give me a present for my BD so she tought a watch would be a nice one. And she was right. She told me to pick one... After researching a bit I found this Laco Aachen 42mm that looked quite nice. It would be a nice addition to have an Aviator watch and i tought Laco, with all its history behind It may be a good choice. Well, I was wrong.
Wempe Zeitmeister
Was in Paris two weeks ago and saw this at the Wempe store. It is a new brand to me and I know I cannot get it here in US except in NY. I liked the clean looks and second timezone function along with the big date and the fact that is has the Gernam chronometer spec is icing. Also, for a watch made in Glashutte (I know it sources ETA parts) the price seemed good for the quality. Anyway I picked it up. Anyone else have a Wempe watch? Gary #1 · Was in Paris two weeks ago and saw this at the Wempe store.
Opinion needed: Nomos on Staib
As you influenced me to buy this same band for the same watch, I had this same thought. I will wear the mesh in a business casual (dress shirt/slacks but no tie or jacket) work setting Monday-Thursday. Casual Friday and general non-work casual I would wear the Cordovan strap.
chronograph 1938 Matt vs chronograph original marine matt
#1 · Hi all, I apologize if this thread exists already but I could not find it. With that said, for the past 2 years I've been starring at the two watches and finally I've made my decision to pull the trigger but now I'm stuck as to which watch to purchase. They are both beautiful watches in there own way. My gut says get the chronograph original marine but the other half of me says get the 1938.
Dings from bead bracelets!
#1 · I know lots of people on here wear bracelets, whether beads, leather, etc beside their watch. I love the look of wearing a bead bracelet and have been wearing one with my Speedy with no problems. Since picking up my brand new Submariner 114060 I've noticed that the case has been slightly marred due to the bracelet (at least I think it's from the bracelet. I haven't hit anything hard with my watch).
Certina DS Action Diver vs. Longines HydroConquest
Going entirely based on looks in my opinion Dial design: Longines - I really like the numerals. The indices and everything on the Certina seem a little played out. Dial color: Certina - I like black over blue. I think black is more versatile. Hands: Longines - Again, I think the Certina is a little played out here. It seems all low end divers have the Mercedes hands, and if not those, they have the hands the Certina has. Bezel: Certina - I think it looks way more aggressive.
5th watch suggestion
Here are a couple of other suggestions…. Although the Dornblüth’s are nice GO senator/sixties - a little dressier than the others, manufacture movement. Entry level high horology. How about a diver? Tudor BB58 is the accepted value standard. I also have enjoyed the DSub by Damasko (mfg movement). For less than 5k you could also get an interesting (lightly used) Roger Dubuis diver (With Geneva seal). 🤞🏼good luck For me there is
[POLL] How many people actually dive with their watches?
#2 · I would guess that the percentage of people with an actual snorkel in their mouth, or air tank on their back is < 3%. I believe most people equate lounging in a pool or jumping into the lake from their boat to be equivalent to diving. Same thing for all these pilot watches.....you'd think every person in the world flies a plane for a living. Most of the pilots I see are wearing a Timex or Casio. Haven't seen too many Breitlings. #3 · I used to take my NY0040 scuba diving, no problems with it.
Scurfa Watches what’s new for 2018
Now, that really looks great ! Often wondered why no one did rubber straps in brown ... Really has that "leather" look to it ! The Old Radium also looks great, too ... unfortunately, not wanting a quartz diver. Will wait for a no-date, Auto version of this new model ... no hurry, Paul ... I can wait !!! Hopefully, it will come. I just love my Diver One SS Black Auto Edition. Great to hear there are lots of new ideas coming, too. Happy New Year, Paul and Alison ! Regards,
which to buy? Certina DS Action Diver vs Mido Ocean Star Captain V?
#1 · Hello folks, I have been reading quite a bit on this forum since I registered. It has helped me get into the watch collecting world, and inspired me to spend more and more money to have many watches I currently have a collection of over 30 watches, both vintage and modern. Pretty much all of them are on the budget side, but I still love them all. The vintage watches are ones I collected from parents and grand parents so they are mostly Soviet watches (I am originally from the Eastern Block).
News: Tourby Watches new Cal. 74.3 movement
#1 · Dear watch friends, we like to present you our new Cal. 74.3 manual wind movement. The construction is based on the ETA Unitas 6498-2 but it is completely made by our partner (a small special atelier) in Switzerland to have the "Swiss Made" label. Some parts, finish and decorations are made in our own workshops in Hagen and Bochum (Germany). We had start with this new Cal. 74 movements 3 years ago but after some problems with our partner in Switzerland we never finished this project.
Habring2 Felix vs Nomos Metro
#27 · Sep 23, 2015 (Edited) Personally I'd take an Orion over a Felix. Can't justify the extra cost at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I'll repost what I posted in my own Habring2 thread. Personally, I feel that the extra cost of a Habring2 is justified. Nomos and Habring2 are different types of manufactures. Habring2's philosophy is very different from a factory based manufacture where are you set up machine equipment and manufacture at scale, so costs can go down.
Miyota movement stutter?
#1 · Hey guys, quick question. I recently aquired a new watch with a miyota 8215 movement. The other day I went to check the time and noticed that the second hand had stopped for a couple of seconds. I wear my watches a bit loose and sort of snapped my wrist so the watch would be on top of my wrist so I could read it (if that makes any sense). Thats when I noticed the second hand stop. I've noticed it do this a couple more times, always when the watch is moved abruptly.
Trias - Mondial Collection
While Trias watches are labeled "Trias Germany", we think they are made in China. We don't normally discuss them on the German watch forum. Choosing a watch comes down to a matter of taste. We have different tastes, which is why there are so many different watch styles. We pursue our own dreams, but here are some reasons I would not choose that model. First the 24-hour scale and list of cities are not especially useful without a 24-hour hand for reference.
BaselWorld 2017 Preview: Mido Baroncelli Caliber 80 Chronometer Silicon
#1 · Baroncelli Caliber 80 Chronometer Silicon The new Baroncelli Caliber 80 Chronometer Si from Mido matches the inexhaustible charm of a refined timepiece with chronometric performance. For inside the elegant case, crowned with a bezel in noble pink gold, beats a COSC-certified chronometer movement complete with silicon balance-spring.
Which one would you choose?
I'm thinking about venturing into uncharted territory as I currently only have German watches. I respect both of these brands and what they have to offer.
Longines Spirit or Nomos Orion
I realize one is a dress watch and the other is a pilot's watch, but they both appeal to me. I have both niches covered a few times over, so it's not about a "need". I just like what each has to offer, and can't seem to be swayed by one over the other. Which would you choose?
Censorship for biased posts.
??? I've seen several recent threads where an OP started a topic that did not receive the expected reception and then the OP goes through and edits all of their posts to remove the content. Oh ok, so its the OP that does the censorship. That so makes sense. Crazy how asking for an opinion can lead to complaining that your personal opinion isn't valid 😅
Stowa Vintage 95 LE
Any takers for this new version of the Prodiver?
Corrigia
The bronze dive watch from Corrigia looks interesting. Does anybody here have one?
Can I dive with a 30m WR watch? An empirical experience
. The buttons on your ZOOP are very dressy, Ive been looking for a good dress dive computer , this may be a good choice if it fits under my french cuffs. Appreciate your thoughts. Do you have any opinion on what you think other people may think of me if I wear this in the board room? It dosnt say professional on the dial - that worries me a bit as Id hate to be thought of as an amateur? PS - that whole "diving" thing looks like fun, I'd like to try it one day, thanks for the pictures.
