VT Football v. NC State 11/18/23
Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia are ranked among the most distinguished institutions in the nation, though many overlook the rich history of these universities. For decades, the atmosphere of the Hokie Nation has been influenced by the beloved areas of Blacksburg and the heritag…
Goodbye Grads: Henneberry’s hardest headline
I don’t even know where to begin. How do you summarize a chapter of your life that was so significant, filled with moments you never thought you would experience? I didn’t think I would make it to college. I didn’t think I would get to experience the 2 a.m. Cook Out runs, the late hours studying in Torgerson and Newman or weekends downtown. I don’t know why I didn’t think it was a possibility for me — it just seemed so far out of reach.
Virginia Tech Football v. Wake Forest 10/14
The grind for college students can be a rough one, with mounds of work to do and deadlines hanging over their heads. The time crunch is real, as deadlines are deadlines, and the work must be turned in on time so professors can then review the work and grade it accordingly. However, it doesn’…
It’s okay to ask for help
I’ve always been good with words. I’ve grown up with English as my favorite subject, picked journalism as my major and decided to get involved in a newspaper that puts out stories every week that I, along with an amazing team of writers, get to edit and show the Virginia Tech community. However, when it comes to talking about something only experienced in your mind and no one on the outside can physically see it, I’m tongue-tied. But, I can always try.
Banishing back-to-school blues: how to succeed this semester
Gone are the days of tanning on a beach, international trips and summer naps — because the fall semester is upon us. For some, the new school year may be a welcome change of scenery from their hometown; but, that doesn’t make transitioning back to school any less stressful. So, how do you make this change easier? Here are some ways to set yourself up for success.
Coffeeholics wins best coffee in Blacksburg
For those students who rely on coffee to get through a day of classes, finding a good coffee shop close to campus that you can depend on can make or break your college experience. Luckily, voters in the annual Best of Blacksburg Poll have spoken, and Coffeeholics was given the 2023 award for best coffee in town.
Women's Basketball v. Duke 2/16/23
On February 4, the Vêtement de Rue Fashion Show 2023 took place in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre of the Moss Arts Center. Spearheaded by a group of fashion and engineering creatives as well as the 53 Virginia Tech students that took to the runway, the Vêtement de Rue show proved to be extr…
Virginia Tech colleges if they were Thanksgiving dishes
Turkey day is upon us: Your family is arriving at your house and people are raiding grocery stores for the best deal on Bob Evans mashed potatoes. Whatever your Thanksgiving looks like, chances are — no matter how much you desperately want to relax and forget — the fact that you still need to take your finals looms over you. So, to give you peace and to transition your mind back into the holidays, I made a list of each Virginia Tech college and what they would be as a Thanksgiving dish.
You want to change your major, but is it too late?
It’s the start of a new semester, and some students may be jumping for joy, eager to learn more about the topics they’re interested in and turn this knowledge into a future career. However, there are also students who are nervous. Last semester, they might not have liked the classes they took for their major as much as they thought they would. This moment here, ladies and gentlemen, is where the beginning of an existential crisis starts creeping into a student’s mind.
Five Hokie-inspired playlists for the new school year
Welcome, Hokies! Fall classes are getting ready to start — whether you’re ready for them or not. Academic and environmental transitions can be challenging, especially the change from high school to college. Also, many of our heads are still at the beach, overseas or even just at your humble abode back home where you were able to sleep all summer.
Cultural, Community Centers create inclusive spaces, build off past milestones
Anyone who has seen a map of what the main campus of Virginia Tech looked like in its early history can see just how drastically the landscape of campus has changed since its founding in 1872. Lane Stadium was not where it is now, building names were unfamiliar and many of our beloved landmarks had yet to be built. However, these changes have affected more than just the buildings made of Hokie Stone.

Teaching with love: The story of Dr. Andrew Becker and Dr. Trudy Harrington Becker
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and in light of this love-filled holiday, we saw it fitting to speak with two lovebirds –– more specifically, professors at Virginia Tech –– who share virtually all the same interests. Even if you are a single pessimist and dread Valentine’s Day (we’ve all been there), this couple is a breath of fresh air.
Students can look to Cook Counseling for support this spring
Get ready, Hokies — it’s that time of the year again. The fall semester went by in the blink of an eye for some, while others may be dreading the start of a new semester. In the life of a Virginia Tech student, going into the spring season means new classes, new workloads and new places to sprint across the Drillfield to –– even if we’re still in winter break mode. Who wants to go back to school after a month-long break of turkey and daily naps?
How to survive awkward Thanksgiving meal conversations
Thanksgiving is today, and some people are not prepared –– whether that be physically unprepared for having a food baby all week or emotionally unprepared to talk to their extended family. Some people might dread going home for the holidays –– especially since they happen to be right after election season. Others might be worried about experiencing new family dynamics or adjusting to a new addition to the family: plans change! However, there are ways to combat this.
When the band comes marching in: How the Marching Virginians energize Lane Stadium
It’s that time of the year again where we face one of our biggest rival in our football schedule: the University of Virginia. This competition between UVA and Virginia Tech is well over a century old, so it’s no wonder why everyone is so invested in the competition between these two schools. However, not many people mention the marching bands in these discussions and debates.
A Hokie transfer’s guide to Virginia Tech
With school being halfway through the semester, many are wondering how freshmen — the ones who were breaking glass, pulling fire alarms and wreaking havoc in the residence halls — are doing. However, it’s not often that someone stops to check in on the transfer students that are just as new to Virginia Tech. In fact, according to Virginia Tech’s Transfer Experience webpage, about 20% of each graduating class is made up of transfer students.
