Pick up the club and look in the mirror. Make sure grip looks and feels comfortable. Pay attention to posture. When you line up with your club, it should be in direct line with your waist. Watch your heel-to-toe weight distribution, and don’t shift too much to your toes.
Colorado AvidGolfer Private Club Guide: Changing the Game - Colorado AvidGolfer
Since its launch in Spring 2015, Frost Creek’s reputation as an innovator in the club industry, both in Colorado and nationally, has grown almost as quickly as its membership. Just as it eschews the words “country club” or “golf club” in its name, Frost Creek continues to break from many of the norms of traditional clubs. It’s a path that has caught the attention of roughly 200 members in just two years and has made Frost Creek the fastest growing club in Colorado.
Colorado Goes to the Masters - Colorado AvidGolfer
“I played 54 holes over two days, my goal being to find one weed and bring it home. I had heard how impeccably manicured Augusta was, but knew there had to be at least one weed growing on the course, which formerly had been a nursery. What happened?
Covering the Covers - Colorado AvidGolfer
2002: Coming off an all-star season (49 home runs, 146 RBI, .336 batting average), the 28-year-old Rockies first baseman had a year earlier signed a $151.5 million deal that would keep him in purple and black for his entire career. A left-handed batter and thrower, Helton plays golf right-handed, sporting an 11 handicap without teeing off once during the baseball season. “You only get so many days off and I would rather relax,” he said.

Colorado AvidGolfer Private Club Guide: It’s Not Just About the Golf - Colorado AvidGolfer
Back in the day, any country club worth its crest would build a reputation around its golf operation. Golfers, mostly men, ran the clubs, and their thinking was that every dollar a club spent on food and beverage, swimming, tennis and general hospitality wasn’t being spent on grooming the fairways, rolling the greens, stock-ing the pro shop, maintaining caddie programs and cart fleets, and ensuring the quality of the gin in the men’s locker and grill rooms. Times have changed.

Coal Creek Golf Course Receives National Honor - Colorado AvidGolfer
Like the rest of America, Louisville’s Coal Creek Golf Course got Trumped in 2016. Not that it’s complaining. In a competition that included golf course projects worldwide, the Colorado course finished runner-up to Trump Turnberry in Scotland as Golf Inc. magazine’s Best Redevelopment of 2016. The judging considered not just course improvements, but existing golf course developments that have been transformed by reconfiguring an existing course, rebranding or adding new elements such as housing.

The summer sun will soon be here but there is still plenty of time to hone your skills in 2017. In the video below, PGA Professionals Andy Proudman and Piers Ward share their top 5 practice tips: 10 shots – Two targets, ten yards apart, and practice hitting between the targets. The goal should be ten solid shots in target. 5 point parallel – Practice the 5 points the club should be parallel to the ground. Shot shaping – Place an alignment stick in front of you and practice your fade and draw shots.
Chip This Way - Colorado AvidGolfer
Chipping is a small swing that does not involve the wrist and very little weight transfer. In many ways, it’s like putting. But chipping also offers more club variety, depending on the lie. Instead of grabbing the same wedge for every shot around the green, try practicing with different clubs. With each shot, pick a spot on the edge of the green to serve as your guide. Now chip onto the green and watch the ball run. This way you’ll get a feel for which club to use in each situation.
Read Your Greens - Colorado AvidGolfer
Green reading helps decide whether you line up left or right and to figure out the slope of the green. Walking around the green helps identify breaks or slopes. Learning to read greens will also lead to proper set-up and approach. In the video below, 2013 U.S. Open champion and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Justin Rose details a few tips to improve his putting while on tour.
17 for '17 - Tips from 17 Colorado Instructors - Colorado AvidGolfer
Click through this article for tips from some of Colorado’s best golf instructors… Coming “over the top”—when your swing plane becomes too steep and attacks the golf ball from an outside-in swing path—is one of the most common problems I see in golfers who slice or pull the ball. The problem often stems from your body getting out of sequence at the top of your swing.

Why the 'New' Plum Creek Could Be Home to Your Next Tournament - Colorado AvidGolfer
What if we told you your next event could be at a Pete Dye-designed former TPC that hosted four Senior PGA Tour events? And what if we told you it would only cost you $79 per player—all in? Plum Creek Golf Club, which has admittedly endured some rough times during its 33-year existence in Castle Rock, has for the last two years been owned and operated by Southwest Greens, the same owners who run the multiple CAGGY Awardwinning Golf Club at Bear Dance, just 10 miles south in Larkspur.
The Hole Hecklers are Making Funny Money - Colorado AvidGolfer
“We’re just another hazard,” laughs Hole Hecklers founder Jon Chambers, a Colorado comic known as J Marc. For a charity golf event at City Park in 2015, a sponsor asked Chambers and fellow funnyman David “Deacon” Gray to roast players on the eighth tee. “Hecklers are the bane of every comedian,” says Gray, “and golf tournaments rank pretty high on the list of events you shouldn’t heckle.” But with lines like “the doctor who birthed me had a better backswing than you,” they were a hit.

January in Colorado can mean a lot of things. The rush of the holidays is over and the start of the new year brings with it excitement and resolutions. The “golf scientist” has been well known in golf circles for a while now after a wildly successful amateur career including becoming only the fifth player ever to win both the US Amateur and the NCAA Division 1 Championship in the same year. But his eccentric style is what has made him so interesting and helped him burst into the national spotlight at the 2016 Masters.

Howling Fun: Wolf Creek Golf Club | Colorado AvidGolfer
Had Salvador Dalí designed a golf course, it might resemble Wolf Creek Golf Club, where the surreal meets the sublime in the sunbaked moonscape of Mesquite, Nevada. Along the course, jagged escarpments appear to melt into sandy pools of glacial white and flow into emerald ribbons that curl around lakes and streams. It’s literally the EA Sports video game come to life. But reality came first. No VR goggles required. Just bring your clubs and camera. And don’t forget your A-game.
