In Vernon Gray’s Aug. 15 response ("Bipartisanship clearly no longer exists") to my earlier letter to the editor ("It's time for political parties to work together again"), he stated that I ignored “the reality that the Democratic and Republican parties no longer have any shared values.” Sir, this statement is the problem. It’s so ridiculous and implies the values of one party are better than another.

I am, as always, amused by Mr. Vernon Gray’s numerous letters to the editor. You can bet if he’s writing, it’s to object to a Democrat. In his latest — "Letter writer uses 'party-line propaganda' to make mislead points" on June 20 — he states that the letter from writer Stewart Cumbo, “illustrates the use of misinformation and disinformation” without providing any evidence. Mr. Gray suggests that using the word "oligarch" immediately aligns a voter with Sen. Bernie Sanders (independent-Vt.).

Candidate's youth could help 'shake things up' on the school board

I found it interesting that several letter writers think a candidate’s youth makes him unprepared to be a policymaker. Yes, Josh Guy is a young man, but I think the St. Mary's school board could use some youthful input to their governance. Over the last couple of years Guy has worked hard to graduate high school, attend college and work at a job. Josh Guy and, in fact, all the individuals running for the school board meet the job requirements of a school board member.
