From Naperville, Illinois, Connor Smith is a sports journalist and storyteller who strives to find topics that go above and beyond the box score. Although he has been writing since he was a 5-year-old, it was his junior year of high school when he combined two of his lifelong passions — sports and storytelling — when he became the sports editor of The Stampede, Metea Valley's student-led publication. Since then, he has been immersed into the world of sports journalism and is pursuing his desired career path at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Smith is currently the assistant sports editor of The Ball State Daily News as well as the newspaper's primary football and baseball beat reporter. He has worked as a sports reporter for the newspaper since his freshman year and has covered 13 of the 18 sports offered at Ball State. Smith is also a sports writing intern for SPBNation, a new startup sports and politics blog based out of Dacula, Georgia, and writes 2-3 weekly sports-related analysis pieces.
In his free time, Smith loves traveling, listening to music, reading, jogging and cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago White Sox. He is open to new opportunities to further enhance his skillsets and abilities.
