Hoyas Hope to Rebuild Cohesive, Winning Culture
After six seasons under Head Coach Patrick Ewing (CAS ’85), the Georgetown University men’s basketball team enters a new era under Head Coach Ed Cooley, who will lead a transfer and walk-on-heavy team as he tries to re-instill a winning culture in the program. FOOTBALL | Georgetown Stumbles Against Stonehill 20-23
Stonehill College, a Division II football program until 2021 with a 4-5 record last year, beat the Georgetown University football team 23-20. Entering the match Sept. 16, the Hoyas (2-1) boasted an undefeated record and were 11-point favorites over the visiting Skyhawks (2-1), who finished second-to-last in the Northeast Conference last season.
FOOTBALL | Georgetown Devastates Marist 49-7 in Season Opener
The Georgetown University football team (1-0) made the late-summer scorch seem tepid through a blaze of rushing offense and a flurry of turnovers en route to a 49-7 stomping of the Marist Red Foxes (0-1) on Sept. 2, securing their first home win since 2019. Fifth-year quarterback Tyler Knoop threw 12-16 for 107 yards and two touchdowns, and he added a rushing touchdown in the final minutes of the game.

CLUB CRICKET | Hoyas Travel to Face GU-Qatar For Friendly Series
The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) traveled from March 3-11 to the GU-Qatar campus to play three matches against its cricket team. The Washington, D.C. Hoyas won the first match, lost the next two and bonded with the students at the Qatar campus. Matt Turner (SFS ’23) and Fuaad Ansaruddin (GU-Q ’23) were chatting after a Georgetown Cricket Club practice in the spring of 2022.
Georgetown Volleyball Head Coach Resigns
Georgetown women’s volleyball Head Coach David Heller resigned Jan. 20 from his position after an uninspiring 4-25 season that ended in a 13-game losing streak. He finished his tenure with a 11-47 coaching record across two seasons. Before arriving on the Hilltop, Heller served as the head men’s volleyball coach and an assistant coach with the women’s team at the University of Mount Olive, an NCAA Division II program in North Carolina.

Entering the 2022-23 season, the Hoyas needed help. Last year, Georgetown finished winless in the Big East, ended out the season with 21 consecutive losses for a final record of 6-25, and closed the book on its worst season since the 1970s. SOCCER | Big East Soccer Championship Moved to Maryland SoccerPlex
Fans of the Georgetown men’s and women’s soccer teams will now have to travel further than Shaw Field to watch the Hoyas in the Big East Tournament. Since 2015, each Big East playoff game was hosted by the higher-ranked seed, but this is set to change. On Sept. 7, the Big East announced its men’s and women’s soccer finals and semifinals will take place at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md., for the next three postseasons.
Georgetown Basketball Seniors Graduate After Stellar Shooting Seasons
In the past two years, two transfer student-athletes arrived on the Hilltop and instantly became the best shooters on campus. Now, they graduate, and Georgetown basketball loses its finest snipers: senior guard-forward Kaiden Rice and senior guard Milan Bolden-Morris. Rice drained shots from beyond the 3-point line all season with one of the hottest hands in men’s college hoops.

MEN’S SOCCER | TABORA’S 90th MINUTE GOAL SAVES THE DAY VERSUS CREIGHTON
The No. 1 Georgetown men’s soccer team kicked off Big East play last Saturday with a nail-biting 2-1 victory over a scrappy Creighton squad, thanks to a clutch go-ahead goal by sophomore forward Marlon Tabora in the 90th minute. A record 6,577 fans filled the seats in Morrison Stadium in Omaha, Neb., on Sept. 18 to watch the Georgetown Hoyas (6-0-0, 1-0-0 Big East) and Creighton Bluejays (1-3-1, 0-1-0 Big East) clash in Creighton’s annual Socctoberfest event.
