Late scores lift Kewaunee past Kiel, 35-21, in grid opener
Kiel had the answer for Kewaunee, except for one player. Senior running back Owen Carlson was a one-man wrecking crew as he scored all five Kewaunee touchdowns in a 35-21 Storm victory over Kiel last Friday at Fifrick Field to start off the 2023 football season. Carlson ran for 261 yards and scored on runs of 82, 53, 8 and 3 yards, and returned a kickoff 82 yards for another. Raiders come out strong But Kiel had its shot.
Grand Opening: Chilton whips Crivitz in stadium debut
Chilton certainly knows how to break in a new facility. With a crowd estimated around 2000, the Tigers celebrated their debut game in “Tiger Stadium” with a convincing 46-27 non-conference win over Crivitz Thursday night. Saying that it was a team win would be a big understatement. Not only did a strong offense put points on the board, special teams and a bend-but-not-break defense set up other scores.
Photo Gallery: Chilton Athletic Complex Grand Opening
The skies cleared just in time for hundreds of people from throughout the Chilton community to come out for the Grand Opening and ribbon cutting for the Chilton High School Athletic Complex. The CHS band started things off with pre-ceremony music and then Chilton School District Superintendent Sue Kaphingst emceed a 20-minute event thanking the voters for their support in passing the 2022 referendum that made the facility and renovations to Chilton Elementary and Middle School possible.
New Digs! Chilton set to unveil new football/track stadium Thursday
Sue Kaphingst can’t wait for August 17 to get here. Neither can Mike Arendt, Corey Behnke and other members of the Chilton High School community. This Thursday, August 17, will be the ribbon-cutting of the new Chilton High School Athletic Complex, the result of an April 5, 2022, two-part $19.3 million referendum that passed after very tense moments.

Few people get the opportunity to do what Pat and Brent Geigel have just experienced. It was an opportunity full of world travel, friendship, sportsmanship and to experience a different culture. Pat, a former Kiel and New Holstein High School coach and educator, and son Brent, a Kiel High School alum, just returned from the World Special Olympics held in Berlin, Germany.
STATE CHAMPS: Kiel girls soccer wins title thriller
The final chapter has been written and what an ending it was. For the first time in the history of Kiel High School, a state championship trophy will rest in its trophy case forever. That is because Mike Pritchard’s Raider girls soccer team made that possible with an incredible 6-5 overtime win over Cedar Grove-Belgium Saturday night at Milwaukee’s Uihlein Soccer Park in the championship game of the WIAA Division 4 State Tournament. “What a game,” said a usually composed coach Pritchard.

HOFFMAN: 12 stories that defined Kobe
Most of you know me as a football guy. It's the sport I've covered most notably the last four and a half years here in D.C., but it's basketball that will always be my first sports love. It's the sport I grew up playing and still do. It's a sport that was my escape and my solace. When life got me down, I'd grab a ball and my headphones and head to my local court. I'd take shot after shot, until I had sweat whatever had me down straight out of me.
Kevin O'Connell amicably departs as Redskins hire Scott Turner as OC
When Redskins offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell found out Ron Rivera was going to be Washington's head coach, he was excited and planned on staying in Washington after a trying year. Rivera was high on O'Connell and the 34-year-old had heard great things about Rivera. The two talked and had terrific conversations, however as the process went forward it became clear the partnership was not going to work out.
Ron Rivera won Day 1 at Redskins Park
Ron Rivera was everything he was sold to be during Thursday's introductory press conference at Redskins Park. He was straight forward. He was extremely passionate. He showed toughness, even while standing at a podium answering questions. He also showed empathy. Rivera talked about developing players on and off the field in a way that was believable. He looked every reporter who asked a question in the eye, only breaking to occasionally address his new players in the front row of the auditorium.
HOFFMAN: Why Ron Rivera is the right coach to lead Redskins
With a simple, one-paragraph statement, Redskins fans' decade-long nightmare was over. Bruce Allen, who presided over an average of double-digit losses per season during his 10-year run, was not only removed from the football operation, but from the organization as a whole. "As this season concludes, Bruce Allen has been relieved of his duties as president of the Washington Redskins and is no longer with the organization,” owner Daniel Snyder said in a statement.
The Redskins' season is over. Now the important part begins.
Breaking News The Redskins' 2019 season is finally over. It ended in the disaster it deserved. Washington turned the ball over twice in its first four plays. Eventually they lost 47-16 in a football game that started as a rock fight and ended in a blowout. The Redskins defense surrendered over 30 points for the eighth time this year. That is half their games. It includes the last three, two of which they have surrendered more than 40 points.
Report: Bruce Allen to no longer run Redskins football operations
After more than a decade, Bruce Allen’s days atop the Washington Redskins' football operation are coming to an end. Allen is expected to be reassigned by no later than Monday, multiple sources say. NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay first reported that Allen will no longer be in charge of football operations by Monday, the day after the Redskins close their season in Dallas.
After best start yet, Haskins' day comes to screeching halt
Dwayne Haskins started Sunday's game as well as a quarterback can. It ended with him on a cart and an ankle injury that could cut his rookie season short. He wanted to return to the game, like he did against Green Bay just two weeks earlier, but was told no by the one man he couldn't argue with: Redskins owner Dan Snyder. "I tried to go back in, but he wouldn't let me," Haskins said at the podium afterward, donning a walking boot on the injured left ankle. "It's an ankle.
Correction to report on Bruce Allen’s role in Redskins replay review
On Wednesday morning during an appearance with Grant & Danny, I made an incorrect statement about Washington Redskins team president Bruce Allen’s role in regards to replay review. Other outlets, including ESPN, used that incorrect reporting on shows on Thursday and Friday despite being notified in advance that we were correcting that reporting. Allen has sat in the coaches' booths for years, as opposed to a box, like most executives.
HOFFMAN: More hope, same result in Redskins 37-27 loss to Eagles
It was another bizarre day in a bizarre season that, in spite of its bizarreness, ended like nearly all of the 2019 season days before it. The Redskins lost, in extra heartbreaking fashion for those more than emotionally invested, leaving as many questions as answers. This was Dwayne Haskins' best day as a pro. It came in a 37-27 loss to the Eagles, but he showed command of the offense, made plays in big situations and got the ball to his young playmakers who continued to show their promise.
HOFFMAN: Callahan's reason for playing Haskins makes no sense
The story coming out of the Redskins loss to the Green Bay Packers has nothing to do with the results. The Redskins were officially eliminated from the playoffs Sunday, but that was a mere formality. A confirmation of something we all knew happened long ago. Sunday’s main story also has nothing to do with any single player's performance or how a young, scrappy Washington team collectively battled till the very end.

HOFFMAN: Past visions lead to future Redskins hope
The Redskins were assembled as a smashmouth, run-first football team. The hope was a low turnover quarterback would make a few plays when he had to, while a stable of talented running backs carried the load, imposing their will on opponents. At 2-9 entering Sunday, the dream came true far too late, but there's no doubt it came to fruition Sunday. Derrius Guice got the party started when the Redskins needed it most. Washington was down 14-0 and looked hopeless after two drives in the first quarter.

Haskins leads Skins to victory, but is no 'closer' just yet
The Redskins won a football game on Sunday at FedEx Field. It's the first time they could say that since October 21, 2018. It was not pretty. In fact, it was ugly and littered with errors that normally cost a team a close game, especially a team with such a small margin for error. However, they won. The defense was very good and, if this were a season where results still mattered, that would be the story.

Callahan's risky coaching tactic pays off with Redskins win
The first inkling that something major had happened came last night, when this reporter received a text message from a source indicating that Bill Callahan had gone off in a team meeting. The source indicated the Redskins interim coach had gone hard, specifically after some younger players and it hadn't sat well with some of those people. But after the Redskins got their first victory at home in over a year on Sunday, the message was fairly unanimous from veteran players who have seen better days.

HOFFMAN: Redskins' failure to make Haskins comfortable is a big problem
If a quarterback isn't comfortable, there are few scenarios in which anything else matters. Dwayne Haskins was uncomfortable Sunday and nothing else mattered. Haskins was asked point blank about a rather stunning video captured by NBC4 that involved the rookie QB asking his offensive line what he could do to help them.
Surreal feeling for Haskins, preparing for first home start
Dwayne Haskins stepped to the podium in Ashburn for the first time as the Redskins starting quarterback Wednesday. "(I've) worked really hard to get to this point," said the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. "And even more work has to be done to continue to go forward." Haskins started against the Bills, but as an injury replacement for Case Keenum (concussion). It's his show now and the Redskins can start building around him for the long term.
Trent Williams Opens Up: No Reason to Stay Silent Anymore
Trent Williams was silent from the moment he didn’t report to mandatory offseason workouts in June until he did report to the Redskins' facility last Tuesday. Silence, despite this and other reporters' repeated attempts to reach out to the seven-time Pro Bowler as well as his agent, who also left calls, texts, and emails unreturned. However, when the Redskins failed to trade Williams ahead of last week's deadline, he felt like he had no other choice but to speak up.
