Transition of atmospheric corrosion behavior and mechanism of Q420 weathering steel on the Sichuan-Tibet Plateau: critical elevation effect
Abstract Extreme environmental conditions on the Sichuan-Tibet Plateau, particularly intense radiation and temperature fluctuations, pose significant challenges to authentic corrosion monitoring. To address this, this study proposes a comprehensive strategy combining Fe-Ti dual-element resistance sensing with survival analysis. Continuous thickness loss rate data for Q420 weathering steel were acquired spanning the entire elevation gradient of the plateau by eliminating temperature interference.
Effect of Mo and Sn co-regulation on low alloy steel corrosion in tropical marine atmosphere - npj Materials Degradation
Abstract The influence of co-regulating Mo and Sn on the corrosion resistance of low alloy steel in tropical marine atmospheric was investigated. The combined addition of Mo and Sn has been found to significantly improve the corrosion resistance of low alloy steel, augmenting the protective capabilities of the rust layer. This combined addition promotes the formation of protective compounds like α-FeOOH and FeCr2O4 within the alloy rust layer.
Enhancement resistance to microbiologically influenced stress corrosion of Cu-bearing steel against Bacillus cereus - npj Materials Degradation
Abstract Microorganisms are notoriously known to cause local corrosion and stress corrosion cracking (SCC), which seriously endangers the materials service safety. Cu can enhance antibacterial function of the material and reduce the vulnerability to hydrogen embrittlement (HE). However, the dilemma of how much Cu content generates the best resistance to microbiological corrosion and SCC arises.
Dual-action smart coating with a self-healing super-hydrophobic surface and anti-corrosion properties
This work introduces a new self-healing superhydrophobic coating based on dual actions by the corrosion inhibitor benzotriazole (BTA) and an epoxy-based shape memory polymer (SMP). Damage to the surface morphology (e.g., crushed areas and scratches) and the corresponding superhydrophobicity is shown to be rapidly healed through a simple heat treatment at 60 °C for 20 min.
