The first Adam and the last Adam
Of all the impactful men that have walked the earth from the beginning to the present, two stand out above all. The first Adam and the last Adam (Jesus). Paul speaks of these two Adams in 1 Corinthians 15:45: “So also it is written, ‘The first man, Adam, became a living soul.’ The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” The first Adam was chosen to represent the entire human race in the test God appointed for him. His test was one of obedience.

Why wait 33 years to die?
If you’ve read the New Testament, you’ve probably noticed that the death and resurrection of Christ is the most significant event in world history. Nothing compares with it. The rise and fall of the great kingdoms of the world, the great wars, the next election, etc., all pale in comparison to the death and resurrection of Christ, because without that no one can be saved from sin and hell. This raises a question.
Where is God in calamity?
When an earthquake occurs and thousands die, where is God? When a tornado brings destruction, where is God? When prolonged drought and famine occurs and thousands die of starvation, where is God? When war kills thousands or millions, where is God? Some people argue these calamities prove there is no God. If there is a God who could stop such things, surely He would stop them. Since He doesn’t, He must not exist.
God does not change
Who is God and what is He like? God is a God who does not change. Malachi 3:6 says, “For I, the LORD, do not change…,” and James 1:17 declares, “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” This is a truth with profound implications for us. First, it’s a good thing that God doesn’t change in light of His spotless perfections. God is perfect in wisdom, power, love, mercy, justice, wrath, etc.
Our need for God
The Bible is an autobiography of God. In it, we learn that God has no needs. He is completely self-sufficient and He cannot profit from our offerings, service or works. In Job 41:11, God says, “Who has given to Me that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is Mine.” In Acts 17, the apostle Paul was provoked by all the idols he saw in the city of Athens. In his jealousy for God, he rebuked the ignorance of the Athenians.
God’s two great commandments
Question: How good do you have to be to get into heaven? Answer: Really good. Perfect, actually. God is infinitely pure and holy. Contrary to popular belief, He has no tolerance for sin whatsoever. The Law of God is summed up by two great commandments. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. These two great commandments must be obeyed perfectly – 24/7, 52 weeks a year, from the beginning of our lives to the end of them.
Who can save our nation?
By the time you read this article, the results of the election may be known… or not, given recent trends. In any case, if your candidate won, you will be ecstatic, whereas if your candidate lost, you will be depressed. Such are the stark and irreconcilable differences between the candidates that a victory by the other side is considered a national catastrophe. But do all our hopes really rest on this election?
They will turn away from truth
What is the job description of a pastor, according to the Bible? The answer might surprise you. If you listen to the average churchgoer talk about what he thinks a pastor should be, you might hear any number of ideas. For some, the pastor should be baptizing, marrying, burying, visiting people in the hospital and preaching short but engaging homilies on Sunday morning. Some think the pastor should be like a life coach, inspiring people to noble living.
Salvation belongs to God alone
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” When it comes to the matter of salvation, there are only two religions in the world: Biblical Christianity, which teaches salvation by grace; and every other religion which prescribes some set of works for sinners to do to obtain salvation.
Do we want the judgment of God to fall on us?
The fall of Roe v. Wade has obviously not stopped the carnage of infanticide. Now, babies are murdered under state authority, instead of federal. Where do we go from here? For a long time, the pro-life strategy has been one of regulation. “If abortion is legal, then all we can do is make it harder to accomplish.” We have become so accustomed to this, we are unable to see the moral compromise it requires. If abortion is healthcare, then certainly we should regulate it.
Gratitude cannot grow in a heart full of pride
Have you ever noticed that you have to teach your children to say thank you, but you don’t have to teach them to complain? Why is that? It’s because human beings are grumblers by nature. We are born that way. We don’t have to be taught how to be selfish or how to quarrel or how to pitch a fit. It’s as much a part of our instincts as rolling on dead animals is for dogs. Ingratitude is rooted in pride. We think of ourselves as good people who deserve a charmed life.
Is your religion worthless?
One day every soul will stand before God to give an account for his life (2 Cor. 5:10). That accounting will include the way we lived, the decisions we made, the things we did, the things we failed to do, the way we treated others, the things we believed, the thoughts in our mind and the things we said. Most of the sins we committed will have been forgotten by us, but God has a perfect memory, and He has video and audio recordings of everything.
There is hope in repentance
America is at a crossroads. The Constitution is on life support. Politicians may assure us that “our best days are ahead,” but most people know better. Sensible folk recognize that our self-inflicted problems have metastasized to such a degree that no politician, no matter how wise and resourceful, can heal them. Long ago, Israel was in the same predicament. Like America, they had forsaken the one true God for false gods. In Judges 10, we read that they were still very religious, but not for God.
