The list of excuses for Itauma - never before have I seen so many
He must have KO'd himself because apparently Hrgovic didn't land a single punch on him. Incredible! I guess Itauma's power is the real deal if he can even take himself out with it.
Michael Spinks vs Tim Witherspoon
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by InMemoryofJakeLamotta, . What if Spinks had fought Witherspoon at heavyweight? I never thought of this match-up. Spinks had a very herky jerky style at heavyweight and still had decent power in his right hand. Tim was very crafty and durable and could really impose himself physically on boxer types. Tim also had that sneaky right hand. I like Tim by mid to late rounds stoppage. A good big man beating a good little man.
Jerry quarry vs joe alexander
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by joe33, . Found this on youtube, great fight, the left hook that puts jerry down was brutal, and yet he still got up and came back, guy had true warrior pride and spirit. Seems jerry was a tad lucky he got the 2nd fraizer fight,he so nearly lost this one, many a lesser man would have never got back up from that punch.
Bruno vs. Dokes
Maybe his power is overrated , but had it been compared to Shavers' and Liston's at least he would have turned out as the heaviest puncher of the 3. Compare the fighters that Shavers and Liston KOd to the fighters Bruno KOd and get the notion , unless you are one of the people here who think Norton , Young and Ellis were vastly superior HW fighters to Coetzee , Ferguson and Carl Williams
James Quick Tillis - What was he missing?
Titan1 said: ↑ Wasn't he allergic to something in the fight diet or some issue like that? Click to expand... Tillis was allergic to milk and eggs, which they found out prior to the Tyson fight. In the 1980"s having an allergic reaction to a food was something nobody considered. In the 80's everyone's main concern was becoming a cocaine addict. It you weren't coked up everyone figured you were good to go.
Jerry Quarry V Carl Williams?
Bump. Carl Williams is among the best of rangey boxers who I could see Quarry beating, but it’s certainly not one I’d bet on, and it’s mainly due to the shaky chin of Williams, however if Quarry can’t find that chin, he probably drops a decision. Quarry would have to find a way into range, Williams wouldn’t give him the counter punching opportunities, and Quarry wasn’t the best at getting inside against fighters who were able to and chose to keep it at range.

How was Michael Grant viewed before facing Lewis?
Negative.... Grant was the definition of the HBO Hype job Izon was shop worn beyond shopworn, never won a meaningful fight...........Golata quit as usual and...Saverese , please ? A shot stoned Tyson stopped "Prime" Golata and Saverese in like three rounds combined.... Grant was always stiff as a board and got hit too much even against ham and eggers, also he was not a particular hard hitter, he was a athlete not a fighter.
How would Jerry Quarry do against these guys?
*Johnny Davis was not viewed as a title defense by contemporary observers such as Nat Fleischer. I think it silly for boxrec to view it as such. **on the question posed--I favor Schmeling, Walcott, and Conn strongly I also favor Pastor and Farr though less strongly Nova was somewhat like Quarry--somewhat of a head case who could come up with flat performances, but had talent. Nova was bigger than Quarry and could box. I favor him if he brings his A game and I think he most likely would.
Harold Johnson vs Jerry Quarry
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by InMemoryofJakeLamotta, . Fairly even money fight I suspect. mcvey, Richard M Murrieta, Gazelle Punch and 3 others like this. My head favours Quarry but my heart says Johnson. Johnson SD, possible cuts stoppage Richard M Murrieta, LoadedGlove, Reinhardt and 1 other person like this. Randy Shields faced both Leonard and Hearns So Who Hit Harder?
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Longhhorn71, . Randy Shields faced both Leonard and Hearns So Who Hit Harder? (Shields faced Cuevas & Benitez also) Some good info in this interview, plus in the Youtube notes. This content is protected Reinhardt, robert ungurean and greynotsoold like this. Roberto Duran .Vs. Thomas Hearns 1980
Roberto completely mugged Leonard in 1980...I dont think Sugar expected such a skilled fighter to be coming at him. If Duran was to have the same element of suprise its a lot closer then people may think. I do think however if he was to win or give Hearns a close fight a rematch would be a much clearer win for Tommy. I strongly disagree that Tommy would do to him what Hearns did to Pipino as that was as emphatic a win as you will ever see.
AJ vs. Fury, who wins?
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by GotchaHat, . Now that AJ vs. Wilder is not happening, AJ vs. Fury looks more likely for 2024. Who takes it? I don’t know what Fury got left. I want Fury to win. Fury of old wins. Fury KOs AJ. Wallin was a pathetic opponent, who put in a pathetic effort vs AJ. He looked and fought like a postman. Joshua smashes Fury to bits, as the Wallin fight shows. Log in with Facebook Log in with Twitter Your name or email address: Do you already have an account?
How close was Bert Cooper to becoming heavyweight champion?
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by 20thCenturyBox, . Bert Cooper got squished by George Foreman and Riddick Bowe, and yet he got two shots at becoming world champion in the space of six months. First, he is a very late (second) replacement for an Evander Holyfield defence. Then, when he does much better than expected, he fights Michael Moorer for the vacant WBO title. How close was he to winning either of those fights?
Prime Bert Cooper vs 2006-2007 James Toney
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Charles White, . I was watching some Bert Cooper fights the other day and realized how underrated he was. If drugs/lack of focus and proper training were not an issue for Bert Cooper, how does he do in his prime vs the James Toney of the Samuel Peter fights? I think Toney from the Holyfield fight outpoints him fairly easy, but I'm thinking it would be a pretty competitive and exciting fight with the later version of Toney. Thoughts?

Alexis Arguello v. Eusebio Pedroza
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > Classic Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Saad54, Dec 19, 2019 at 7:12 AM. How does this go at 126. The main advantages Arguello had are punching power and chin. Eusebio can match him in ring savy, defense, heart, ring generalship and stamina. I see this one most likely going the distance with Alexis landing the bigger shots and hurting Pedroza at some juncture.
'68 quarry vrs. '78 holmes
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > Classic Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by clark, Aug 6, 2008. any comments on this matchup? Bokaj Obsessed with Boxing Quarry wouldn't gotten by Holme's jab. A stoppage on cuts somewhere in the middle rounds. A very tough style for Quarry. Jerry was great when his opponent came at him (especially if they gave him a bit of space to work) as with Lyle and Shavers, but had serious problems on the front foot.
Gorman, how far can he go after that ??

Charles Martin vs Gregory Corbin set for the Spence vs Garcia card
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Chuck Norris, Feb 22, 2019 at 10:07 AM. This content is protected Very nice fight! Glad to see my main man Charles "Walk the Earth Like a God" is back in action. I all seriousness Martin looked a lot better in his last fight that I thought he would. He gave Kownacki a hell of a fight that could have gone either way. Martin really needs to develop a power jab, as all he has now is a touch jab.
Anthony Joshua vs Fedor Emelianenko (in a fight to death without weapons)?
Prime Fedor absolutely mutilates him. Old Fedor most likely still beat him today. Joshuas size wouldnt help as Fedor fought much bigger guys than him many times. That being said at his size and skill level there isnt an mma fighter in the world including the top ufc guys right now who could stand with him.
