Women’s participation in inventive activity - a recent EPO study
It has long been understood that women are under-represented in a vast number of industries, including many areas of science and technology. For example, a 2017 report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) found that women accounted for only around 37% of new entrants into tertiary-level science programs, less than 20% of entrants into tertiary-level computer science programs, and only around 18% of engineering entrants.

Finally, a quiz so you can stop wondering! Select all that apply: You put yourself out there-front and center-and make it known that you are available, but you are always passed over, if not outright ignored. When compared to your peers, you've been described as "thicker-skinned". You worry that you might have become too dry. People never seem to know what to do with you. Social media - devising and protecting your online presence from the outset
In the context of social media, one of the most important assets to a streamer is their online persona, through which they engage with their follower base. Integral to this online persona is any handle and/or proposed logo which the streamer chooses to embody themselves with. Often however, such handles and logos can be devised without sufficient foresight, which can then cause headaches later on through them conflicting with an existing right held by another entity.
Tick, Tock, TikTok: metronomically descriptive?
This case is a High Court appeal against the decision of a UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) hearing officer to invalidate a registration for TikTok, emphasising the importance of claiming priority when you can, as well as discussing the criteria for considering complementarity between goods and services. TikTok International Ltd owned a class 42 registration for TIK TOK covering the “compilation of information relating to information technology”, dating from November 2018.
Happily eva after! Time to get re-aqua-ainted with global assessment | Lexology

Kerrygold v Kerrymaid - is the element “kerry” distinctive in the EU? | Lexology
In this decision the General Court had to decide whether the potentially descriptive meaning of the element “KERRY” (referring to a geographical location in Ireland) and peaceful co-existence in part of the EU would be sufficient to exclude a likelihood of confusion. The General Court said no – at least as long as such descriptive meaning would be understood by only part (and not the majority) of the EU public and co-existence related to only part of the EU.

One of the key verdicts this year was that of the Court of Justice of the European Union’s (CJEU)decision between Brompton Bicycle Ltd v Chedech/Get2Get,1 in the context of folding bicycles. The decision reiterated that in the context of functional designs, copyright may also subsist where the work (design) maintained originality – specifically in that it is the author’s own intellectual creation; and that the author’s creation is expressed.
