With The Drought Over, "Gold Fever" Grips California
The heavy rains that pummeled California this year ended the state’s historic drought in spectacular fashion, saving the state’s farming and tourism industries from an uncertain future. But the return of rainfall has had other less obvious economic ramifications, including, as the Los Angeles Times reports, the revival of an activity that’s been associated with the state for more than 150 years: Prospecting for gold.
Is This The Generation That Is Going To Financially Destroy America?
Authored by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog, Did you know that the federal government is going to spend more than 4 trillion dollars this year? To put that into perspective, U.S. GDP for the entire year of 2017 is going to be somewhere between 18 and 19 trillion dollars. So when you are talking about 4 trillion dollars you are talking about a huge chunk of our economy. But of course the federal government doesn’t bring in 4 trillion dollars a year.
Connecticut Capital Hartford Downgraded To Junk By Moody's
Just two days after S&P downgraded Hartford to junk, Moody's has piled on, pushing the Connecticut State capital below investment-grade due to "the increased likelihood that the city will pursue debt restructurings to address its fiscal challenges." One week ago, Illinois passed its three year-overdue budget in hopes of avoiding a downgrade to junk status, however in an unexpected twist, Moody's said that it may still downgrade the near-insolvent state, regardless of the so-called budget...

A Civil War For Control Of The US Government Has Erupted Between "The Deep State" And Donald Trump
Submitted by Michael Snyder via The End of The American Dream, The ruthless political assassination of Michael Flynn was just one battle of a major civil war that has erupted for control of the U.S. government. Donald Trump and his new administration are now under relentless assault by “the deep state”, and at this point it is not clear who will emerge as the victor.
"Euro May Already Be Lost" - Vice-Chairman Of EuroThinkTank Warns "No Way To Avert Break-Up"
The 1st of January 2017 marked the 18th anniversary of the European common currency, the euro. Despite its success from 1999 to 2007, after 2008 the euro has become a burden for many of its members. For example, living standards in Italy and Greece are below the levels when they joined the euro. Finland is the only Nordic country using the euro and it is also the only Nordic country which has not yet recovered from the financial crash of 2008.

Is It Smart For Trump To Embrace "Big League" Dow Gains? History Says No
President Trump is anything but traditional. He frequently says things that his predecessors would never have dared to utter publicly. But, for the most part, his supporters applaud the candor and straight talk. That said, one Presidential tradition that Trump may not want to break is celebrating stock market gains because what goes up, at least on Wall Street, usually comes crashing down in spectacular fashion at some point soon thereafter.

Obamacare Enrollment Drops To 11.1 Million, Government Calls It "Sign Of Success"
By nearly all accounts, Obamacare has been a spectacular failure. Whether it's the fact that half of the cooperatives created by Obamacare had to shut down costing taxpayers roughly $1.2 billion, or that insurance premiums are exploding higher, or perhaps just having to find a new healthcare plan since the largest US health insurer decided to divorce itself from the Obamacare exchanges, it all points to disaster. When it comes to the latest Obamacare enrollment figures, the story remains the same.

The Trajectory of Venezuelan Hyperinflation Looks Frighteningly Familiar...
Extreme shortages of food and power continue to ravage the country of Venezuela, and ordinary people have been paying the price. With triple-digit inflation, that “price” is expected to continue to soar even higher. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its most recent set April forecasts, expects inflation in Venezuela to hit 481% by the end of 2016. Even scarier is the estimated pace of acceleration – by 2017, the IMF expects Venezuelan hyperinflation to climb to a whopping 1,642%.

What Would Happen If Humans Vanished From The Planet?
Submitted by Mac Slavo via SHTFPlan.com, After the crisis, there could be nothing left of human populations. There is no doubt that a disaster big enough to wipe out humanity exists – the threat of an EMP, a plague-level outbreak event, a total nuclear war, it doesn’t really matter what it is. Even if there were survivors, the larger forces at work will undo the artificial forms that now dot the landscape and define our culture.
Refugees. | Zero Hedge
Refugees have little or no respite today in the world and that’s a telling tale of the type of world that we have created around us. There are growing numbers of those that are fleeing something in their home country ad all too often they flee to the nearest available space, which in an ever-spiraling knock-on effect ends up with displacing people yet again, forcing them to go somewhere else.

Fed Nemesis & Mysterious Treasury Bond Buyer Exposed
The monotonous drone from The Eccles Building continues to pontificate that bond bulls are fools but stock buyers are the smart ones for the miracle hockey-stick of Keynesian dreams is just around the corner and rate-hikes right along with it. Three decades of factual dismissal of this bullshit propaganda are of course proving that line of reasoning simply false and while Rosengren, Bullard, et al.
The Necessity of Human Action
In 1987, Levon Helm, a former cotton farmer from Arkansas, sat brooding in his yard, trying to describe why his apparent success had turned to near-bankruptcy: “Well, it’s hard to put your finger on. You get behind financially and once you get behind financially, you seem to get behind spiritually. And your luck turns against you.” Levon’s perception of his situation is a common one.
Russia Completes Energy Bridge With Crimea, Warns Against Any Future Interference
When Crimea's secession to Russia was accepted by Putin, the logical next phase of the process was to cut off Crimea's reliance on Ukraine for energy, and fully integrate it into Russia's supply network. That phase has now been completed, as the fourth and final line supplying electricity from mainland Russian to the Crimean peninsula has been completed according to RT... The energy bridge connects the mainland with the peninsula with a series of undersea cables running across the Kerch Strait.

The EU's Kiss Of Death

The Wonder Years Are Over
Authored by Bill Bonner of Bonner & Partners, annotated by Acting-Man's Pater Tenebrarum, We were in a cab on the way from Charles de Gaulle Airport yesterday. We had innocently asked our cab driver how things were going in the country. He had some thoughts… French president Francois Hollande: against all odds, he managed to attain the most powerful position in French society. And yet, even he is unhappy. “France is a mess. We have 5 million people unemployed.
The Great Unifier (And Why Bush Republicanism Is Dead)
“The two living Republican past presidents, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, have no plans to endorse Trump, according to their spokesmen.” So said the lead story in The Washington Post. Graceless, yes, but not unexpected. The Bushes have many fine qualities. Losing well, however, is not one of them. And they have to know, whether they concede it or not, that Trump’s triumph is a sweeping repudiation of Bush Republicanism by the same party that nominated them four times for the presidency.

The Hire That Could Be The Difference Between A Fed Rate Hike And BoJ Helicopter Money
Back in March, Japan's Global Pension Investment Fund appointed Norihiro Takahashi as its new president. Venezuela, That Sinking Feeling
Authored by Steve H. Hanke of The Johns Hopkins University. Follow him on Twitter @Steve_Hanke. Venezuela has been burdened by government corruption and incompetence for years.
