Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, they were still around when I was a grade school student. My parents had an electronic one which was the bridge before computers.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

The Newsman from Muppet News Flash. Just a soulless puppet spewing a bunch of inane nonsense. Reminds me of Don Lemon.

Who do you wish followed you?

Nikolai Berdyaev.

Why did you become a journalist?

I'm not.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Newspaper? No. My friends were suburban beatniks. They were influential and I owe a debt of gratitude to them, but they were unconventional.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I think it would be "When the Bells Stop Ringing" which came out in April 2026

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

I find that I vacillate between a few remaining regular haunts in the area, mostly ethnic churches, delis, old libraries and book stores.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

First Things
