Intrinsically nonlocal metamaterials - Nature Communications
Abstract The electromagnetic response of materials serves as the foundation for a broad range of vital applications, from imaging, to sensing, to classical and quantum communications. Here we demonstrate, theoretically and experimentally, a fundamentally new regime of electromagnetic material response originating from inherent material nonlocality.
High operating temperature plasmonic infrared detectors
The performance of infrared photodetectors, particularly at long wavelengths, degrades drastically with increasing temperature. Often, expensive and bulky cryo-cooling modules are required to reduce detector dark current and maintain acceptable detector performance. In the long-wave infrared (LWIR, 8–13μm), detectors must typically be cooled to near liquid nitrogen temperatures in order to achieve reasonable performance metrics, increasing both the cost and weight of infrared sensor systems.
All-epitaxial guided-mode resonance mid-wave infrared detectors
The mid-infrared (mid-IR) portion of the electromagnetic spectrum ( λ ∼ 3 − 30 μ m) is a wavelength range of significant importance for fundamental scientific investigation and a range of technological applications.
Enhanced emission from ultra-thin long wavelength infrared superlattices on epitaxial plasmonic materials
The field of plasmonics centers around the generation and manipulation of hybrid electromagnetic/charge density waves supported at metal/dielectric interfaces.11. H.
