Probing structural superlubricity of two-dimensional water transport with atomic resolution
Editor’s summary Water transport can drastically change under different conditions and can even achieve superlubricity, meaning that friction virtually vanishes. The microscopic origin of this counterintuitive property is unclear. Using a cryogenic atomic force microscopy technique, Wu et al. directly imaged bilayer hexagonal two-dimensional water islands on homopolar graphene and heteropolar hexagonal boron nitride monolayers and measured their friction forces as a function of island area.

Deformation Behavior of Carbon Fiber/Al Composites with Corrugated Structure for Developing the Rolling Plate
Abstract Herein, a rolling strategy for carbon fiber (CF)/Al composites is proposed, that is, by constructing a corrugated structure of Sn-protected CFs ([CF@Sn]≈Al composites), to realize the cooperative extension of woven CFs with Al matrix deformation in the rolling process. The matching extension feasibility and structural optimization of (CF@Sn]≈Al composites are calculated based on the designed 3D numerical model of rolling system.

Statistical Modeling of Arctic Sea Ice Concentrations for Northern Sea Route Shipping
5. Conclusions This study introduces a systematic method for forecasting Sea Ice Concentrations along the Northern Sea Route for Arctic shipping and evaluating the transit navigation window. The Arctic region is divided into sub-regions that encompass the NSR segments, and the mean SIC of each NSR segment in each sub-region is obtained through the proposed statistical interpolation.

By examining 3,711 IPOs from 1976 to 2013, we find that peer firms' earnings quality is negatively associated with IPO underpricing after controlling for IPO firm earnings quality and other attributes.
