#DrDaddyKay: Gender neutral toys this Christmas. Really?
There is enough gender confusion in our world, and now, particularly at Christmas time, supermarkets are pushing for gender neutral toy isles in their stores. What helps us identify with our gender? Is there a biological predisposition for boys to be attracted to boyish play in order for them to fulfil a vital role with regards to evolutionary survival or is it a learned behaviour? A boy reaching for a pram is not a precursor to homosexuality; in fact, it’s probably a compliment to the parents.
#DrDaddyKay: Dear spouses - please just love one another
Please just love one another. The alternative is too great a burden to carry. It's not out of fear that one should love to sustain a relationship, but out of a sense of duty and care. We wake up, kiss the kids goodbye, head off to work, return and go to sleep. We become mechanical, free of thought; actions become driven by this unconscious routine which lacks little input, bypassing any notion of cognitive ability. As a couple we become passing ships in the night. Please just love one another.
#DrDaddyKay: The Facebook facade
My most recent post, Going at it Alone, generated much interest. Readers invited me into their private lives by sharing their own troubles – the very things which keep them awake at night. What this has shown me is, firstly, I am not alone in my current situation, and secondly, we are so good at not only hiding our innermost misfortunes to the outside world, but have in fact become experts in creating a whole new world where life is carefree and fun beyond comprehension.
#DrDaddyKay: The single dad going at it alone
There is little reassurance in the pseudo comforter that is “you are not the only one going through this”. Yes, many have come before us and many will after us, but that means so little when your whole focus is on that one little being that you have helped nurture for x amount of years. Playing tag-team to spend time with one’s children is not an ideal situation. This modern take on the once nuclear family where one adult and one, two or three children occupy the home is not a comforter either.

Read: The one letter you don’t want to get if you work at the SABC If you're one of the #SABC8 then you've likely received this letter in the last couple of days. Earlier today the national broadcaster fired two more journalists, bringing this week’s total to six in just two days and Eusebius McKaiser got hold of one of the journalists’ letter of dismissal. McKaiser published the letter on Twitter. Have a look at Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s standardised tool of suppression:
Solidarity tries to stop SABC journalist-purge
Trade union Solidarity will on Thursday ask the Labour Court to set aside the SABC's decision to dismiss four of the eight journalists it suspended. Foeta Krige, Suna Venter, Krivani Pillay and Jacques Steenkamp were sacked on Monday, despite the fact that their disciplinary proceedings were still under way. The union would ask for an interim interdict against the suspensions and disciplinary processes, chief executive Dirk Hermann said.
‘Africa is being re-colonised by the corrupt’. Mathews Phosa
The former treasurer-general of the ANC has warned against Africa re-colonising itself as elements of state capture, nepotism and corruption become more prevalent. Phosa, a stalwart of the ruling party and struggle hero, has become increasingly critical of the ANC and especially Jacob Zuma; most recently insisting that the president do the honourable thing and step down in light of the Nkandla scandal.
It’s all about the Lions - Super Rugby Stats
The regular season of Super Rugby has come to an end and the Lions have to be content with second place on the overall log. Johan Ackermann’s decision to rest his entire first team for Saturday’s trip to the Jaguares did not pay off, and now the Lions face the prospect of playing the Super Rugby final in New Zealand should they get that far.
Democratic Alliance accuses ANC of using Mandela Day initiatives for campaigning
Solly Msimanga says the ANC were handing out "register to vote" tshirts while visiting an old age home on Mandela Day. Democratic Alliance (DA) Tshwane mayoral candidate Solly Msimanga says the African National Congress (ANC) used a visit to an old age home on Mandela Day as a way to campaign. Msimanga was visiting the Ikageng Old Age Centre in Mamelodi east on Monday and say that the people at the centre were given ANC tshirts with “register to vote” on them.

Watch: The Queen ‘responds’ to Brexit, throws some shade at David Cameron [video] Hilarious little spoof of the Queen and Prince Charles 'watching and commenting' on the Brexit announcement. Yes it’s funny, no it’s not real, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining.
Are we writing off Leicester City again?
The Euros are over and the EPL is taking center stage again. New managers have joined but haven't we forgotten about the man and the team who made ambitious dreams a reality? Seriously?! The silence is deafening. Are we making the same mistake again, in thinking that Leicester City will not mount up a solid defence of the title? The same title they won when no one believed they would (even me), well apart from that one random Leicester City fan who never cashed out from his bet.

Democratic Alliance wrong to claim 67% of Cape Town’s budget spent on poor communities
The Democratic Alliance, and many of its senior members, claimed that the City of Cape Town municipality spends 67% of its budget in poor communities. But the evidence that they provided doesn’t prove that. What do Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille, Democratic Alliance national spokesman Phumzile van Damme, member of parliament Kevin Mileham, Cape Town councillor Anda Ntsodo andshadow minister of water and sanitation Nosimo Balindlela have in common?

Zuma thinks it’s “normal” that his decision to fire Nene cost the PIC R99 billion
|
El presidente believes that the R99 billion the Public Investment Corporation lost within the first 48 hours of his decision to fire Nhlanhla Nene, was a “normal” economic phenomenon. The DA’s David Maynier asked Zuma whether he still believes that the markets overreacted to him sacking a perfectly good finance minister and replacing him with an unknown back-bencher.

#DrDaddyKay: Things to do with your little one over the summer break
Within a week or two, it will be that time of the year again. That time in the academic school calendar which leaves you staring down the barrel of a metaphorical gun. We call it the “summer holidays” to somehow soften the blow. The word “summer” always brings with it the utopian ideal of lazy days in the sunshine, and “holiday”, well, that noun speaks for itself.

The smiling face of white resistance
One of the UK’s most controversial Southern African organisations espouses the return of white rule to SA. The South African attends a most extraordinary meeting Two weeks ago, a group of people gathered in the top room of the Antelope pub, just off Sloane Square. They hung a banner on the wall: the old South African flag, bordered by two leaping springboks. And with a bang on the table, member Peter King brought the meeting of The Springbok Club to order.
