Effects of nicotine concentration and pH on nicotine pouch appeal and sensory experience: A randomized experimental study
INTRODUCTION Oral nicotine pouches (ONPs), marketed as tobacco-free (i.e. no tobacco leaf) products, are rapidly emerging as a new category of nicotine product in the USA. As these products became available in the US market in 2016, their sales have increased substantially, particularly in recent years—monthly unit sales increased from 327 million in July 2021 to 1046 million in May 2024, representing more than a threefold increase [1].

Addressing the Growing Use of Nicotine Pouches Among Teens
While rates of cigarette smoking in the United States have steadily decreased in recent years,1 a range of smokeless nicotine products have increased in popularity. Among these, nontobacco oral nicotine pouches have garnered increasing attention from researchers, public health experts, and others who are both concerned about their potential health risks and intrigued by their potential use in harm reduction efforts.

Dose-response effects of two nicotine salt formulations on electronic cigarette appeal and sensory attributes
Abstract Objectives Various organic acids are used to create nicotine salt formulations, which may improve the appeal and sensory experience of vaping electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). This clinical experiment examined the effects of partially and highly protonated forms of two nicotine salt formulations (nicotine lactate and benzoate) versus free-base (no acid additive) on the appeal and sensory attributes of e-cigarettes.
The interaction of e‐cigarette use and mental health symptoms on risk of cigarette smoking initiation among young adults in the United States
INTRODUCTION As cigarette smoking has declined in the United States (US) reaching historically low prevalence, the typical age of smoking initiation is occurring later [1, 2]. In the 20th century, US smoking initiation nearly always occurred during adolescence [3]. However, according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the percentage of young adult smokers who initiated cigarette smoking between 18 and 23 years old increased from 20.6% in 2002 to 42.6% in 2018 [1].

Within‐person associations of escalated electronic nicotine delivery systems use with cigarette, alcohol, marijuana and drug use behaviors among US young adults
DISCUSSION The current study is one of the first longitudinal analyses to characterize within-person associations of escalated ENDS use with individual and combined use of other substances in a recent national sample of US young adults. Our hypothesis was that, while the prevalence of current established ENDS users would increase, the within-person escalated use of ENDS would decrease during the 6-year study period, was partly supported.
