Why did you become a journalist?
No one was reporting the whole truth about higher education or representing the voices of working-class people in the sector.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Nope. I was too busy on the track team and other sports.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I am most proud of any story that helps students, consumers, workers, and debtors gain awareness and navigate through the system.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
If you are too concerned about gaining money, fame, or power, you are getting into the wrong business.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Running or walking.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?
It is commonly believed that higher education is transparent, liberal, and democratic. It is not.
