Heaton’s newest (and tastiest) eatery has arrived! Zenobia is serving up delicious Arabian street food in their brand-new Chillingham Road restaurant. Zenobia started selling their cuisine at markets around the North-East, including the Quayside Market and Hebburn Market. Their food is loved by many, so they decided to open a permanent restaurant. The trendy spot officially opened on 8 February, and The Courier were invited to try some of their dishes.

The Traitors returned to BBC this January, leaving the nation hooked. With viewing figures of up to 7.10 million, the show was among the most watched of all TV broadcasts. For comparison, shows that were broadcast in the same period, such as Love Island: All Stars, were left in the dust, with an average of 1.85 million viewers. The reality TV show involves 22 strangers, one Scottish castle, and £120k up for grabs.
Vegan Market returns to Newcastle
Vegan Market Co returned to Newcastle on Sunday 29 October, bringing a huge variety of vegan products to Grainger Street. The market visits a variety of different cities each month, with latest locations including St Albans and Bournemouth. I have visited the markets a few times - in Sheffield and last year in Newcastle. There’s always some great food to try, such as cheesecake, hot dogs, fish, and scotch eggs.

Tensions continue in Newcastle bus strikes
Go North East bus services could face a 12-week strike as Unite members have rejected latest pay offer. Workers in the North East argue that those in the North West earn more than them, prompting pay disputes and walkouts, over the last month. Two-week strikes had already been staged however a continuous walkout began on 28 October. Negotiations on 6 November between Go North and Unite ended after 4 hours, with Unite walking out.
The countdown to Christmas: Do we start celebrating too early?
The nights are starting to get longer, the air has a chill about it, and the shops are starting to stock Christmas items. This may fill some people with utter frustration – why are we already seeing baubles and tinsel? It’s only October! I am not one of these people… I love Christmas. As we’re all aware, the months leading up to Christmas are a time of deadlines, exams, and reminiscing over laying on the beach during the summer.

A date for one - the importance of having a relationship with yourself
It may sound odd; how can you have a relationship with yourself? Surely a relationship requires at least one other person… I’m here to advocate for the importance of building a relationship with yourself, as I truly believe that being comfortable with spending time by yourself (and being able to enjoy the time spent alone) is something that everyone should master. I know for some people, the idea of going somewhere alone makes them shiver with awkwardness and embarrassment.

I absolutely must unwind and cannot do anything productive (like crack on with the mountains of untouched Uni work). It’s important to take breaks after all; the last thing I want is to burn out.

According to Olio, over 1/3 of all food produced globally goes to waste and the annual value of wasted food is $1 trillion. However instead of declaring gloomy statistics, I’m here to share how we can actively help with reducing food waste around Newcastle.
