Thumb war battle fought inside local Walmart
CIRCLEVILLE TOWNSHIP - While standing in line at Walmart’s self checkout yesterday, a young boy about 5 or 6 who was in line with his mom kept staring at me. I tried to ignore him but he never broke his gaze. Finally, he broke the awkward silence and said, “thumb wrestle?” I couldn’t believe the nerve! Again, I smiled and looked away as if I hadn’t heard him, hoping the line would pick up. But just my luck, only one self-checkout was working at the time. Ignoring him didn’t work.

I first met Royal Young while smoking a cigarette outside the Hotel Rivington in the Lower East Side while attending a mutual friend’s birthday party. The friend was Cathrine Westergaard, and Cathrine, a photographer and fashion film director, had formed a coterie in New York of video artists, painters, musicians, authors and models that Winter. Royal and I were a part of that group but had failed to meet one another until that night.
